Broken
Dave Navarro
Vivid/Teravision
Broken does not begin in an erotic fashion -- it starts with
Sasha Grey weeping uncontrollably and masturbating on the bathroom
floor. The scene is soaked in shadows, and her acting is painfully
realistic. Pain is a recurring theme in this ambitious film, and
director Dave Navarro is gifted at making viewers empathize with the
pain his characters experience. The first real sex scene has dominant
Mark Davis manhandling Sasha roughly. The lighting is strange, intense,
and washed-out, and the dialogue is often inaudible.... though there are
Italian subtitles. (An artistic touch that doesn't immediately make a
lot of sense, but it's certainly memorable.) There's lots of choking and
slapping, and the scene isn't particularly linear -- there are jump-cuts
to mid-fuck, mid-blowjob, and back again -- and then things get really
strange. (How strange? Sasha cooks up Mark's jizz in a spoon, sucks it
into a syringe, ties off her arm, and then, presumably, injects it into
a vein.) The next sex scene has Jenna Haze and Tommy Gunn in a hackneyed
porn set-up: he's the pizza guy, she's the girl who wants to tip him
with sexual favors. But most of the non-sex action is on fast-forward,
with them zooming around the room with sped-up chipmunk voices, only
slowing to normal speed when she drops to suck his cock. But you only
see a moment of that before the camera angle changes and reveals that
we're on the scene of a porno, with several couples being shot
simultaneously. Pretty soon we're dipping in and out of those other
scenes, with Spyder Jonez fucking Victoria Sin, and a point-of-view
blowjob with Sasha sucking off a camera-wielding Marco Banderas, and
Lisa Daniels and Kayla Paige going at it girl-on-girl. About half the
movie's running time is spent on this set, jumping from scene to scene
and back again, with performers wandering around and joining each other,
until finally it's a kind of cooperative orgy. Hot? Yes. Confusing? Also
yes. The final scene has Sasha returning to Mark Davis, wielding a
shotgun, and forcing him to do some rather humiliating things. For a
moment, you might think you understand what's happening -- she's a porn
star in an abusive relationship, who can't take anymore. But in its
final minute, the film manages to pull another mindfuck on the
viewer, and it's both disturbing and quite satisfying. This is weird,
ambitious, and hot, well worth your time. (2007, 1 hr 15 min)

Dark Side
James Avalon
Red Light District
Penny Flame has a tryst with her lover... and then her husband's goons
break in, and kill him. Wait, no, it's not that at all. She's not even
married. No, wait, if it's not, what's her husband doing in a stretch
limo with the goons and two "interns." No,
wait...
This is surrealistic silliness, something like an extremely
hardcore Twilight Zone episode with a sense of humor. The sex is the
point here, and the sex is athletic, raunchy, a bit rough in places, and
very energetic. This is LA porn of a very high plane; it deserved the
battery of awards it received at the last AVN
show.
Penny Flame plays the woman whose reality keeps shifting under
her, uh, feet. Randy Spears (yay, Randy!) is great as her
possibly-husband. The group sex scene with her, Randy, another guy and
three other girls is simply terrific, everyone romping up a storm. In
fact, for multiple-girls-on-one-guy scenes, this movie is nearly
definitive.
Two-disk set, in a slipcover case, with lots and lots of
extras.
Won the 2006 AVN Awards for Best Couples Sex Scene-Film
(Penny Flame & Herschel Savage), Best Supporting Actor-Film (Randy
Spears, yay Randy!), Best Oral Sex Scene-Film (Alicia Alighatti, Hillary
Scott, Randy Spears), Best Group Sex Scene-Film (Alicia Alighatti, Penny
Flame, Dillan Lauren, Hillary Scott, Randy Spears, John West), and Best
Non-Sex Performance (William Margold). (2005, 2:43)
Cast: Penny Flame, Alicia Alighatti, Dillan Lauren, Deja Daire, Hillary Sott, Julia Bond, Holy Wellin, Sunny Lane, Missy Monroe, Kelly Wells, Sean Michaels, John Strong, Tommy Jun, Marcus London, Randy Spears, Herschel Savage, Alex Rox, John West, Billy Glide, Ethan Cage

Far Away
Vivid Videos
David Stanley
So, this movie doesn't start off too surreal: A girl's last
single girlfriend is getting married, and she's depressed because her
boyfriend is off in Los Angeles running a strip club. So, she decides to
go out to LA and be with
him...
And then things get surreal. She finds LA, but not LA as we know
it: It's a strange land full of anonymous sex, porn stars, and weirdos.
OK, maybe that is LA as we know it, but she seems to find it
all, in rapid succession. It's a (very funny) parody of how people view
Los Angeles, and it works remarkably well. The sex, while standard Los
Angeles porn sex, is superb examples of the genre, and the cast manages
to get some acting in even during the sex. And Evan Stone is, as always,
the comic
center.
The only real problem, as with all Vivid releases, is the
mass of really tacky ads that they insist on putting at the front of
disk. Fast-forward is all we can recommend. (2006, 86 min.)
Cast: Tawny Roberts, Nicole Sheridan, Stephanie Swift, Holly Hollywood, Voodoo, Evan Stone, Eric Masterson, Chris Cannon

Pornomation 1
Sagémonn and Karynna
Cherry Boxxx Pictures
The bulk of Pornomation 1is a series of short animated
films -- most CGI -- with science fiction and fantasy elements. The movie
is a few years old, and CGI is a technology that improves by leaps and
bounds each year, so the quality isn't all that impressive by current
standards; most of it's pretty good, though, and it's worth a look if
you like novelty. The first, short, "Level 37," has a human woman
entering what might be a futuristic prison, and climbing onto a burly
alien with a penis that appears to be a separate entity with a mind of
its own (at least, it has a mouth of its own). It's entirely plotless,
as is "Smokin," where the same woman puts a sex robot through his paces,
in this case testing him to destruction -- it's a hell of a sex toy,
though. "Manaconda" has more of a fantasy feel, with a woman in bits of
jewelry and not much else kneels and services a vaguely non-human guy in
chains; based on his incredibly large penis, he's the Manaconda in
question. The next few actually have stories, of a sort: In "Night
Hunters" a potbellied alien gets jumped and molested by a couple of
tree-dwelling females, and upon ejaculating, he mutates into... a tree? A
cock-shaped volcano? Something, anyway. "Auto-Cunnilingus Alien" isn't
even a proper cartoon, just various views of a sketch of an alien who
can fulfill her own sexual needs, and does. "Abduction" has a woman
being probed by aliens, and there's a cute little twist at the end, and
even a bit of dialogue. In "Passage" a soldier treks to a cliff, past
skeletons, and tosses his torch off the edge, summoning a winged woman.
Angel? Harpy? By the end, it seems more likely she's a Valkyrie, as she
fucks him unto death and then harvests his soul. Or else he's died in
battle, and this is just the way his skewered brain copes with death. In
"The Groupies" a woman goes into her attic and finds a magical sex toy
in a box, and frolics with it -- soon its equally sentient friends join
in. There's another little twist at the finish, and it's amusingly
silly.
The next section of the film is called "Simulations" and consists of
footage of alien and fantasy pin-up illustrations, some quite well done,
some merely competent. It's a rather rapid montage that would have
worked better as a gallery with a series of static photos that could be
advanced at will by the viewer. Finally there's "Visitations," where
artists Sagemonn and Karynna do the behind-the-scenes thing, in the form
of showing a visiting alien what they're all about. It's a cute conceit
for a little featurette, and it's fairly interesting. This small, odd
film is more cute than hot, but it's worth a look for novelty value
alone.
Winner of the 2006 AVN Awards for Best Alternative Release.

Pornomation 2: Zuma: Tales of a Sexual Gladiator
Sagémonn and Karynna
Cherry Boxxx Pictures
This is the second creation by the husband-and-wife team of Sagemon and
Karyanna, expanding on their love of Xeno-erotica. Like something out of
the pages of Heavy Metal magazine, PornoMation 2: Zuma:
Tales of a Sexual Gladiator is a erotic graphic novel given life.
Unlike the original PornoMation DVD, Zuma: Tales of a
Sexual Gladiator is a single, continuous story. Zuma is taken
from earth as a child, transported to the far end of the galaxy ("Where
everybody else is," according to the into) and sold into slavery. When
her sexual appetites blossom, she is entered into the NymphOlympics
where she is to copulate with alien beings from across the galaxy. These
events are an interstellar spectacle, where combatants are forced to...
fight, under the effects of an erotic field that arouses any and all
living beings within the arena. First contestant that orgasms, looses.
Zuma "battles" a cornucopia of alien critters for fame and glory (and,
eventually, to earn her freedom), and proves to be the best sexual
gladiator ever seen on the interstellar circuit. Eventually she meets
her match when the competition enters an "anti-Zuma" gladiator into the
contest. This greatest obstacle to her chance of freedom comes in the
form of... a human
male!
As a bonus we get to preview two short animated stories such as
the kind found in the original PornoMation DVD. This is an
erotic throwback to the old days, when short cartoons and films were
shown in theaters before the main feature, is a nice touch. The DVDs
visuals are well done but unfortunately the audio is a little tinny, and
it can be difficult to follow the dialog. Turning on the English
subtitles is highly recommended, as it makes understanding the dialog
much
easier.
Zuma: Tales of a Sexual Gladiator will not
disappoint fans of interspecies erotica with its variety of sexual
encounters, lifeforms and plethora of tentacle sex and science fiction
fans will enjoy the variety of alien encounters and environments. (2006,
86 min)
