	Ashley and Kisha: Finding the Right Fit Tony Comstock Comstock Films Ashley and Kisha: Finding the Right Fit is the latest film from Tony Comstock, porn's premiere cinema verite director. Comstock specializes in finding real people who are willing to speak frankly about their sex lives, and demonstrate those sex lives on camera, and the latest film follows the same documentary premise, intercutting interviews with brief snippets of a sex scene, followed by the complete scene. While his previous films have focused on straight couples and one gay male couple, this is the first devoted to a lesbian relationship. Ashley and Kisha are a charming couple, very comfortable together, and their story is funny, interesting, and rather charming. They met in college, where Ashley was an openly gay student athlete, and Kisha was a straight student who wasn't even bi-curious — at least, as far as anyone knew, including herself. But Ashely pursued Kisha, and gradually won her over, with some humorous misadventures along the way. (The story of their first attempt to use a strap-on is hilarious.) Having gotten to know them a little through their interviews, it's a bit odd to watch them make love — after all, they're not playing roles, but letting you peek into their real lives — but the context also makes the sex more emotionally involving for the viewer. 	Barbara Broadcast Henry Paris VCA What a great film. This is why pornophiles the world around rave and sigh about the Golden Age of Porn. Inventive, imaginative, genuinely funny and seriously sexy, it weaves deliciously clever sex scenes into an interesting, clever story. The sex is both raunchy and sweet, and it isn't bogged down in the thousands of modern-day porn-industry conventions. There are scenes of impetuous passion, and scenes of cool, sophisticated pleasures, and scenes of long, lingering, taking-their-time sensuality. 	Barcelona Sex Project Erika Lust Lust Films of Barcelona Barcelona Sex Project is a smart, funny documentary about half a dozen sexy twenty- and thirty-somethings living in Barcelona, Spain. Director Erika Lust is adept at drawing them out, getting them to tell their life stories (including cross-continental moves, divorces, sexual fantasies fulfilled, career dreams and career realities, etc.). 	Batman XXX: A Porn Parody Axel Braun Vivid Batman XXX is the best porn parody of the year. Rather than take on the dark-and-gritty modern incarnation of Batman, director (and Batman enthusiast) Axel Braun hearkened back to the campy 1960s TV version starring Adam West. Dale DaBone and James Deen are wonderfully cast as Batman and Robin respectfully; while Dale doesn't look much like Adam West, he does capture the combination of silliness and gravitas. The casting of the villains is even better, though: two of porn's greatest scenery-chewers, Evan Stone and Randy Spears, depict the Riddler and the Joker. 	Chemistry, Volume 1 Tristan Taormino Vivid Finally, someone has done something interesting with the idea of reality-porn! In Chemistry, Volume 1, Tristan Taormino, sex columnist, author, and director, locked seven porn stars up in a house for a day and half, and did interviews and sex scenes, one after another, with them. The results are utterly charming, even more than her previous release House of Ass (which we loved, too). 	Dark Angels Nic Andrews Skillfully directed, beautifully filmed, with a seriously interesting story and wicked-hot sex, Dark Angels is that rarest of all rarities — a sex video that works both as a movie and as smut. New Sensations reportedly spent months on this film, both in production and post-production, and quite a bit of money as well. And it shows: Dark Angels does an excellent job of pushing the boundary between porn-movies and movie-movies. The production values are first-class (well, on the porno scale of things, anyway), with excellent editing, way-cool special effects, and camerawork that puts other porn movies to shame, all adding up to a stylish, striking, and compelling overall look. The story (a supernatural vampire crime thing — Buffy and Angel fans will love it) is actually interesting, and the acting and writing are pretty decent; it's not Citizen Kane, but it's definitely on a level with a good B-movie, and we had no desire whatsoever to fast-forward through the plot. And the sex is gorgeous and wild, with attractive performers who seem really, really happy to be there. Highly, highly, highly recommended — the whole office was totally distracted the day we popped it into the VCR (back when we had such things), and some of us count it among the best adult movies we've seen. Do note that there is some violence in it, including a couple of "vampires killing their victims after fucking them" scenes — we personally found them totally hot, but it may not be your thing. 	Dark Garden Michael Ninn From the acclaimed director of Latex, Shock, and Ritual comes one of the most visually exquisite adult movies we've seen in a long, long time. Beautifully filmed, heavy on the atmosphere, with expert camerawork and lighting that often moves past mere skill into real artistry, Dark Garden has an elegant, smoky cinematic style that's a strong sensual pleasure to watch. Set in a Bladerunner-esque retro-future world of opulence and corruption, the story centers on a drug-like implant that creates a hallucinatory total-sensory experience directly in the user's brain (a la Brainstorm or Johnny Mnemonic). 	E-Love Wanted Simon Wolf Simon Wolf has a great sense of humor... and that's a wonderful thing in porn. A woman whose boyfriend is a serious two-timer, and a professor with no social life whatsoever are set up via a dating service without their knowledge by their "friends." 	Edge Play Veronica Hart A businesswoman (Marilyn Chambers) meets a wealthy couple who devote their lives to making women's sexual fantasies happen in reality. A good choice for couples looking for something a little raunchier and edgier than you usually get in "couple's tapes"; there's a strong focus on female pleasure, and everyone involved looks like they're having a ball, with some very loud, expressive performances. The fantasies are imaginative and fun, with a light touch of kink. It's great to see Chambers doing new work, and there's a terrific scene with Chloe (who we're always happy to see) getting fucked in a sling in a nightclub. 	Erection Services InPulse Erection Services is a porn-for-straight-women feature starring buff beefcake Julian (this time with the assistance of Alex Sanders and Chris Cannon). The male performers get top billing here, which should tell you all you need to know about the sensibility of the film — it's about pleasing women, though the female stars are lovely enough that male viewers can enjoy it, too. In voiceover, Julian explains how his ex-girlfriend always insisted that men never know what women really want. Determined to prove her wrong, he decides to start a gigolo service with a couple of friends. In the course of servicing his clients, Julian discovers that, in fact, he doesn't understand women. It turns out women like to be pampered! And to be treated nicely! (Though, oddly, they don't mind the occasional facial cumshot.) The film serves female viewers well, with plenty of lingering shots of beautiful male bodies in all their sweaty glory, with lots of cunnilingus, some foot worship, and a brief, tasteful anal sex scene. The production values aren't incredibly high, and there are some odd directorial flourishes, but nothing too distracting. The film is fairly short overall, only about 75 minutes, though the three scenes are all individually fairly long and involved. 	Rawhide Nicholas Steele Ultimate Pictures Beautiful photography, beautiful actors, and a beautiful plot... what more can you want from a porn movie? The plot's a good western one: A rancher's daughter sweeps into her father's spread, looking to sell out and cash in. The hands actually doing the work don't much take to that idea... but just how far are they willing to go to stop it? The production values are great (it was shot on HD, and well-rewards a huge monitor), the acting is good, and the script isn't just a way to get from one sex scene to another. The sex has the usual set of porn conventions (some anal, some facials), but it's also often lovemaking rather than just fucking. And with three disks, this could be the excuse you've needed to get a multidisk DVD changer. 	Strap-on Motel Beatty, Maria Bleu Productions Strap-on Motel is far more classy than its rather straightforward title would suggest. Indeed, it's an elegant and even sweet indie film, made with great care and attention to detail, with a willingness to linger that's absent in most frenetic mainstream porn. There are only two performers onscreen, the blonde London and the boyish Dylan Ryan, and the success of the production depends entirely on their chemistry together; fortunately, they seem perfectly at ease with one another, and the film is like a glimpse into a long lost weekend of languid lust. Dylan and London make love to one another in a motel, and that's all there is to this film, but the closeness of the focus does not necessarily mean a lack of variety. 	Taken Veronica Hart Taken is another fine film directed by Veronica Hart which happens to hit all of the elements that we look for in a Couple's Video (see the top of the Couple's Videos section to see what those are). It's a plot-oriented, romance novel-type story of a rich housewife/mother (Ginger Lynn) who's kidnapped by a stranger (Evan Stone, looking very Fabio — even wearing a white ruffled shirt in one scene) and kept captive until she falls in love with him. The film is mostly populated with performers approaching (or in the case of Hirschel Savage, about to leave) their forties, but they're all quite fit and attractive and still very sexy to watch. The sex, at times fast and even a bit rough, at other times gentle and slow, is all skillfully shot and edited together to show both the passion and personalities of the characters. In addition to some grand sexual performances, particularly from Ginger Lynn and from Alexandra Silk (in her scene with Herschel Savage), the story is also well-acted in the plot scenes, winning Ginger Lynn the Best Actress and Herschel Savage the Best Supporting Actor awards from AVN. 	Tell Me What You Want Jonathan Morgan Wicked Pictures Jonathan Morgan made his name making fun, light pictures... which this is not. However, he is still one of the best and most imaginative directors working in porn. The plot is not complicated: Missy plays an artist who becomes sexually involved, and sexually obsessed, with Mickey G.'s mystery man. He feeds her libido, and she his, and their sex play becomes more intense each time... But if the sex is hotter and hotter each time, what happens when your libido pushes you over a limit you didn't mean to cross? This movie has lots to recommend it: The sexual chemistry between Missy and Mickey G. is terrific; you do not doubt for a second that they are hot for each other. Missy is sizzling, while not being or trying to look like she's still 19. The sex scenes themselves are beautifully shot. This is a great couple's film, if what the couple in question is looking for is something intense and very, very sexual. We loved it. The "making of" extras on the DVD are funny as hell, too. 	This Ain't Star Trek XXX Axel Braun Hustler This Ain't Star Trek XXX is a kind of erotic love letter to the classic original series of Star Trek. The sets are lovingly designed, the costumes are beautifully recreated (complete with miniskirts for the ladies!), and the casting is mostly top notch. Evan Stone (who cut his signature long hair for the role) is perfect as Captain Kirk, since he's the closest thing the porn world has to the scenery-chewing antics of William Shatner, and Nick Manning does an equally impressive turn as villainous genetic superman Khan Noonien Singh (originally played by Ricardo Montelban). When Khan releases a deadly virus that can only be cured by a massive release of endorphins, the crew has no choice but to fraternize intimately in pursuit of life-saving orgasms. 	Tristan Taormino's Expert Guide to Anal Sex Taormino, Tristan Vivid Ed Tristan Taormino wrote the book on anal sex for women (literally — it's called The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women), and her Expert Guide to Anal Sex is essentially a video primer on the same subject. Despite the general title, this is specifically about anal play and sex for women, not men — though many of the principles are the same, be aware there's plenty here about indirect g-spot stimulation and nothing about prostate massage. The film begins with an "anal workshop" hosted by Tristan herself, featuring anatomical diagrams and demonstrations by Lorelei Lee and Ariel X. The workshop is a remarkably complete rundown on the ins-and-outs of anal play, from the basics to more advanced issues, answering questions like: Why would anyone want to do this? How does it feel? Tristan begins by presenting anatomical charts to a room full of ordinary women, discussing the anatomy of the penis (circumcised and un-), with special attention to the more sensitive parts (head, frenulum, etc.). She then addresses the camera to remind guys that fellatio can be a mutually-pleasurable experience for both partners, not just a selfish act. 	Under the Covers Candida Royalle Adam & Eve Under the Covers is a funny, sweet film from gifted director Candida Royale. It opens with newlywed Richard Range filming his wife Sativa Verte as she does a little striptease for him in lingerie. Turns out the filming is an assignment from their sex therapist, Charly Carlyle, and next up we see Charly being interviewed by a reporter doing a story about "Modern-day Aphrodites" — women who embrace porn and sex. It's largely a film about secret lives. 	Way of the Dragon Celeste Digital Playground This has about as much to do with anything in Asia as The Mikado has to do with Japan (that is to say, not much except nice costumes and sets... really quite lovely ones, in the case of this movie). That being said, it's a great movie. Celeste creates a series of beautifully-shot, wordless vignettes, all moving slowly and stylishly (indeed, it reminds us just a bit of Kabuki in that regard). Some are girl/girl/boy, some are girl/girl, some are just girl, but they all move at a dreamy, delicate pace, nothing like the slam-slam-slam style so popular these days. The videography and art design are gorgeous, sometimes stunning. Although it's not really a "bondage" movie, there's fair amount of very attractive rope bondage, too, and one scene with an actress lashed to a post that's definitely a bit more extreme than we've seen in mainstream porn for a while. And if AVN creates a "Best and Most Thorough Use of Chopsticks" award, this is a shoo-in. All of the scenes are worth watching, repeatedly, at great length. The performers are very attractive, both male and female, and there's a lot more female wetness than we usually seen in a mainstream porn movie. If you are looking for something as interesting and beautiful as a Michael Ninn movie, without Ninn's frenetic editing or sense of cool reserve, Celeste (and this movie) are the movies for you.
