	Afrodite Superstar Femme Chocolat Adam & Eve/Femme Productions Afrodite Superstar is the first feature from "Femme Chocolat," a new division of feminist porn company Femme Productions dedicated to increasing ethnic diversity in porn. It's a welcome change to see so many performers who aren't white, blonde, and surgically-enhanced, but a laudable mission statement doesn't guarantee good moviemaking. Fortunately, this film stars the wonderful Simone Valentino, who combines great sexiness with great comic timing. She even has a good script to work with, playing Afrodite, a self-described "BAP" -- Black American Princess -- from Beverly Hills. One night while she's out at a karaoke bar with her best friend Isis, Afrodite is discovered by a hip-hop starmaker CEO. Afrodite doesn't actually have any talent, or any desire to be a musician, but she goes along for the ride while Isis provides music for her to lip-sync over. Eventually, of course, Afrodite has to decide whether she wants to live a lie, pretending to be a badass from Compton in a culture where women are routinely called bitches and hos, or if she wants to be true to herself and find her own path. The film is a gentle satire of gangsta rap culture, and ultimately a rather sweet love story. Some of the jokes are hilarious -- Afrodite's gangsta alter-ego claims to have been born in prison! -- though others are less inspired (she suffers a "wardrobe malfunction" during a live performance and has to apologize to her fans). The numerous fake music videos are a treat, too. The filmmakers occasionally hits you over the head with the feminist subtext (one character likes to quote Gloria Steinem and bell hooks, complete with attribution!), but their intentions are good. This is a porn movie, of course, and there are sex scenes, but there are long stretches of movie with no naked booty on screen at all, and less than half the movie features people fucking onscreen. Still, it's a sexy, funny, and best of all different film, well worth a look. (2007, 70 min.) 	Aphrodisiac Jerome Tanner Hustler Aphrodisiac is goofy fun, with enough self-awareness and clever jokes to make the bad acting and silly plot enjoyable, and every sex scene is good (one of them is even great). Evan Stone is "Dakota Smith," a treasure hunter with archaeological tendencies -- sound familiar? (He even has a coiled bullwhip on his belt, though he doesn't ever hit anyone with it; this isn't that kind of movie.) On his last treasure hunt, Dakota found the Holy Grail. Now he's been recruited to find something even more amazing: the Aphrodisiac, a mystical treasure that drives women wild, or makes men incredibly virile, or something like that -- it's never really clear. It will certainly lead to sex, though, and no mistake. Dakota sets off into the desert of Mexico with a villainous German and his dumb bodyguard, and hijinks ensue. It's got everything you want from a pulp adventure -- guys in eyepatches and pith helmets! Succubi (with sex toys)! Magical mirrors that lead to magical palaces! Guards in chainmail bikinis with big fake spears! Poisonous cocktails! Skeletons in jeeps! Sticklers for mythology might be bewildered by the appearance of Aphrodite in an Aztec temple, but it's as plausible as anything else. The sex scenes are all good, running the standard gamut of boy-girl, girl-girl, and three-ways, and all the blowjob scenes are especially well done, with inventive camera angles. There's a gorgeous girl-girl scene with Naomi and Eva Angelina as "Aztec girls," with strap-ons, sex toys, and crotch-grinding. The one truly spectacular sex-scene has nothing to do with the magical plot: Evan Stone gets picked up in a bar by a couple of swingers (including Sondra Romain) and they go to a sleazy motel for a rough-and-tumble three-way with lots of anal and dp. It's a little masterpiece of its kind. Everybody seems to be having fun throughout the film, and you'll have fun, too. The movie is in high-definition widescreen. Now, you might ask yourself if you want to watch porn in HD -- won't it just show every pimple and pockmark? But it looks good on a regular screen, too. 	Barbara Broadcast Too! Veronica Hart VCA Pictures You know that an adult movie actress is good at what she does when she does a scene in which her character loses her virginity, as an adult... and you believe every moment of it. Chloe is one of our favorite actresses here at Blowfish, and this movie shows why. She's cute, funny, and when she has sex, you know she's having a great time. The sex is sweet, fun, and hot. The movie is very funny in places, and don't we all wish we lived in a world in which sexual demonstrations at book signings were considered normal? While all the performers are attractive, none of them have a look that screams "porn star!", and that's a good thing. The women are a wide range of ages and physical types, and not one of them has an unnatural-looking body... and that's a very good thing. 	Beast Michael Raven Wicked Anthony Crane's character has a problem: Who is he, really? When he looks in the mirror, a different person stares out each time. This movie has atmosphere to burn, with lots of S&M going on: bad boys being topped by very bad women, and vice versa. Under it all, the plot is a hallucinogenic retelling of Beauty and the Beast. While the S&M is not hardcore pain play, there's a ton of it by mainstream porn movie standards. Michael Raven is one of our favorite directors; he designs beautiful movies, and he knows how to photograph sex. Our favorite scene is the Jessica Drake / Miko Lee / Anthony Crane threesome; the sex, the setting, the videography, even the dialog all work together. 	Beautiful Michael Raven Wicked Pictures This film won all sorts of 2004 AVN awards (including Best Video Feature, in a tie with Raw Hide), as well as the 2003 XRCO award for Best Video, and it deserved every single one of them. A sweet, lovely girl is working for a cruel, exploitative boss in this elaborate retelling of "Sleeping Beauty." The production is simply gorgeous; punk-noir 1940s blending with modern-day look. The sex is very hot, and while the performers are very, very good looking, they represent a splendid trend away from being anorexic and surgery-intensive. The acting is above par for this kind of feature, and did we mention that the sex is very hot? And that it looks great? It does. More porn should be like this; watch it with someone you love, or at least have the hots for. For those that have the equipment for it, the (superb) soundtrack on the DVD is recorded using Dolby 5.1 Surround Digital. 	Black Worm Pulpo, Inc. The first film from ambitious new company Pulpo is a sex-and-violence extravaganza that has more fucking than murder, but only just. If you like your porn edgy (or your nihilistic crime movies with lots of sex), Black Worm will appeal to you. The story is gritty but the production values are high, with a hard-driving soundtrack, good camera work, and acting that ranges from the adequate to the impressive, with no really dreadful performances. There's some weirdness -- like a brief animated interlude of one stick figure slitting another stick figure's throat and giving him a Colombian necktie, and a dream sequence of a drugged-up woman in a flying psychedelic bathtub -- but it's mostly a very naturalistic film, set in a highly detailed world populated by Hispanic drug dealers, junkie whores, coked-up strippers, classical-music-loving money launderers, and wisecracking thugs. It's part revenge thriller and part caper flick, made of interlocking vignettes that jump around in time and viewpoint. The non-linear structure, with its flashbacks and shifting points of view, and the scenes of oddball dialogue and occasional non-sequiturs, are all reminiscent of the movie Pulp Fiction, and the visual style recalls that film, too. If Quentin Tarantino made porn, it might look a little something like this. As for the sex, there's plenty, mostly quite hot, if sometimes uncomfortably intercut with scenes of violence. A hard-bodied chollo drug dealer energetically fucks a girl who only wants him for the drugs he can supply; a crime lord offers his favorite woman to a business associate, and tells her to do whatever the man wants, which she does; a woman seduces a man (with a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist, no less) in the course of a heist; and so on. It's Lorena Sanchez's first leading feature film role, and she carries it well, and Alektra Blue does good work here, too. I saw Black Worm in a rough cut (which wasn't really very rough), so I can't speak about DVD extras or any of the other bells and whistles, but the film itself is really quite wonderful, and a very auspicious debut for a new production company. 	The Bridal Shower Candida Royalle Femme Productions A bridal shower turns steamy as the showerees flirt, share sex tips, teach each other how to strip, and tell stories about their sex lives and fantasies (all stories fully depicted, thanks to the miracle of video flashbacks!). Lots of fun, raunchy, tell-it-like-it-is sex talk (if you guys have ever wondered what women talk like when you're not there, this is the movie to buy), along with the usual sensual, emotional, woman's-point-of-view sex scenes that are the trademark of Candida Royalle's Femme Productions. It's a pleasure to see some mature, thirty- and forty-something, porn-veteran women instead of the usual assortment of just-post-teen porn bunnies; and there's some excellent sex advice snuck in with the entertainment. 	Cherry Bomb Vivid Cherry Bomb combines sex and (mostly offscreen) violence with a great deal of energy. The plot is really dark, but it's mainly a delivery mechanism for several hot sex scenes, most featuring the delicious blonde Monique Alexander in the title role. She plays a prostitute under investigation for a series of deaths involving victims connected to her -- clients, fellow hookers, her father, her best friend, her pimp, etc. Alektra Blue plays the hot cop interrogator trying to shake the truth out of her, but Cherry maintains her innocence, and the film unfolds in a series of flashbacks that neither confirm nor deny her involvement in the murders. In the first scene, Monique lights up the screen in a skimpy schoolgirl outfit, role-playing with a john (who later dies falling down the stairs). Scene 2 has Cherry's father (Tom Byron) fucking her best friend (Missy Monroe, who looks a bit haggard in this role, especially compared to Monique's fresh-faced beauty); they get poisoned afterward. Scene 3 has Monique in a skimpy red dress pleasuring her pimp (before he gets skewered with a barbecue fork). Scene 4 is the best of a good bunch, with yummy Hillary Scott, Flower Tucci (famous for her squirting ability), and Jay Huntington indulging in an incredibly energetic three-way that leaves them all looking sticky, mussed, and thoroughly satisfied (at least, until they get taken out by a car bomb). The final scene is the inevitable girl-girl get-together between Monique and Alektra, who has finally become convinced of Monique's innocence. They passionately pleasure one another in the interrogation room and make good use of evidence (crime scene dildo!). There's a twist at the end, of course -- not much of a twist, but satisfying, if a bit disturbing. The production values are pretty good, though the lighting in some of the flashback scenes is washed-out, and the sound in the interrogation scenes is hollow, tinny, and echoing to the point of distraction. Overall this is a smutty, dark-edged flick with lots of anal, squirting, sucking, and fucking, with enough of a plot to keep things connected and moving along briskly. If you don't mind the fact that almost everyone involved in a sex scene winds up dead, check it out. (2007, 140 min.) 	Corruption SexZ Pictures Corruption combines a compelling story, flawed characters, high production values, and gonzo stunt-fucking in an epic tale of power and, yes, corruption. The center of the film is the relationship between Bryn Pryor (as ruthless Republican senator and presidential hopeful David Walker Helms) and Hillary Scott (as his willing and eventually ill-used fucktoy Natasha). There are a lot of plot twists, far too many to enumerate, and the film is worth watching for the story alone. The plot is driven mostly by the senator's wife (played with great sexiness and charisma by Kylie Ireland), who tries to get rid of Natasha because the senator keeps taking her out with him in public, and reporters are beginning to suspect an affair. Of course, the truth is far more depraved than a mere affair, with Natasha tormented for the senator's amusement, used to seduce and blackmail political rivals, and constantly defiled, to her own great delight. Most of the sex scenes -- which are long, involved, emotional, and indescribably raunchy -- serve the story, revealing things about characters and driving the plot. All the gonzo stops are pulled out, with gangbangs, double vaginal penetration, double anal, slapping, spitting, bondage, choking blowjobs, dirty talk, and more, but it all makes perfect sense for the characters, who are desperate to feel anything real, and who seek ever more extreme sexual outlets for their frustration and rage. Only the final orgy scene is a disappointment -- it's meant to highlight the senator's loneliness and desolation as he sits alone in the midst of depraved acts of sport-fucking, and that works, but there's a hollowness to the by-the-numbers orgy that's disappointing after the intensity of the other scenes. Still, even with that low point, there's still 3 hours and 40 minutes of great sex-and-story here, which should be enough for anybody. There are tons of extras, including a good director's commentary, lots of behind-the-scenes footage, an extended blowjob scene, a big photo gallery, trailers, etc. Altogether a great value. 	Dark Angels Nic Andrews Skillfully directed, beautifully filmed, with a seriously interesting story and wicked-hot sex, Dark Angels is that rarest of all rarities -- a sex video that works both as a movie and as smut. New Sensations reportedly spent months on this film, both in production and post-production, and quite a bit of money as well. And it shows: Dark Angels does an excellent job of pushing the boundary between porn-movies and movie-movies. The production values are first-class (well, on the porno scale of things, anyway), with excellent editing, way-cool special effects, and camerawork that puts other porn movies to shame, all adding up to a stylish, striking, and compelling overall look. The story (a supernatural vampire crime thing -- Buffy and Angel fans will love it) is actually interesting, and the acting and writing are pretty decent; it's not Citizen Kane, but it's definitely on a level with a good B-movie, and we had no desire whatsoever to fast-forward through the plot. And the sex is gorgeous and wild, with attractive performers who seem really, really happy to be there. Highly, highly, highly recommended -- the whole office was totally distracted the day we popped it into the VCR (back when we had such things), and some of us count it among the best adult movies we've seen. Do note that there is some violence in it, including a couple of "vampires killing their victims after fucking them" scenes -- we personally found them totally hot, but it may not be your thing. 	Debbie Does Dallas... Again Thomas, Paul Vivid Debbie Does Dallas...Again is a funny, sexy, big-budget film that's sure to show up on award ballots. Director Paul Thomas has crafted a truly strange and surprising film that is ostensibly a remake of the original Debbie Does Dallas. The two movies don't have much in common, though, except the presence of cheerleaders in skimpy outfits -- and, really, isn't that enough? Stefani Morgan plays Debbie, head of a co-ed cheerleading squad that's about to take part in a big national competition. She's having fun sleeping with cute boys and leading her team on the road to victory until her treacherous co-captain arranges for her to have an "accident" during a particularly acrobatic cheer. Penny Flame, who hilariously plays a rather sex-crazed angel, informs Debbie that she's dead, but Debbie has unfinished business, so she makes a deal to trade sexual favors in the afterlife for a return ticket to Earth. The resulting angelic orgy -- on a set featuring a vintage convertible and pools of water -- is both very hot and very weird, with amazing rough sex with Penny and Debbie and Evan Stone. Debbie returns to Earth... but not in her own body. She has to steal the body of suicidal geek Hillary Scott, and win her way back onto the cheerleading squad without revealing her true identity. The bits with Hillary and her blatantly cheating boyfriend Marty Romano are hilarious, especially when she walks in to find him dressed up in a cheerleader outfit -- the movie's full of bizarre, funny little details like that. Naturally, the reincarnation of Debbie takes over the cheerleading squad, leads them to the finals... and then there's an actual plot twist that you may not even see coming. The movie's full of good sex scenes and tons of scantily-clad eye candy, including everything you'd expect from a cheerleader porno, including erotic exercise routines and locker-room lesbianism. Plus all the weird stuff -- a blowjob in a coffin, angels in undisguised fake wings and halos shagging against pillars, even some play with candle wax (not a traditional part of cheerleader porn). The extras are epic -- this is a three-disc set, and includes the entire original Debbie Does Dallas, plus tons of bonus scenes and outtakes, trailers, galleries, behind the scenes feature, and so on. 	Debbie Loves Dallas Eon McKai Vivid Alt Debbie Loves Dallas is a re-imagining of legendary cheerleader porno Debbie Does Dallas (already the subject of many a remake), with the pierced-and-punk aesthetic typical of Vivid Alt productions. This time Dallas is a rock band, and Debbie (Cassidey) is their biggest fan, determined to lay the lead singer (Alex Gonz). In the first scene, Dana DeArmond fucks drug dealer Tommy Pistol in his van, with a rough blowjob, some slapping, and anal -- it's a fun scene, and the performers have a good time with it. Next up, junkie James Deen gets it up for Pixie Pearl, with some tit-fucking to start. There's a nice effect where Pixie fantasizes that she's fucking the singer from Dallas instead. Then Pixie and Dana make their way to the recording studio to fuck some of the band members, with three guys and two girls switching partners frequently -- it's rough, nasty, and frenetic, filmed on shaky handheld cameras, and when the action isn't hard to follow, it's hot. Charlotte Stokeley and Cassidey hold out for a chance to fuck the lead singer, though, and find a guy who's willing to introduce him... to whichever one of them sucks the best cock. They do their best, but he doesn't follow through on the promise. Monique, Pixie, and Cassidey assuage their disappointment by having a rough-and-tumble all-girl three-way. Charlotte finally sneaks into the recording studio under the pretense of being a reporter, and manages to give the rock star a good sloppy blowjob... but they're interrupted before she goes as far as she'd like. Finally -- as we knew she would -- Cassidey gets the chance to fuck her number one crush. It's a pretty good scene, though perhaps not worth all the build-up. There's some foot-fucking for the cumshot, which is nice if you're into that. This is a clever, fun flick full of little jokes, asides, and pop-cultural references, with a hot cast. 	Dinner Party at Six Sean Michaels VCA Dinner Party at Six was first released in 1997, and is perhaps too recent to really be called a "classic," but its appearance for the first time on DVD is still noteworthy. Director Sean Michaels set out to create an interracial porn film that would actually confront issues of racial tension, and to some degree succeeded. When a white woman invites her black fiance and some of his friends to a dinner party with her own friends and family, clashes are inevitable, but bigotry and prejudice are largely overcome through good old-fashioned fucking. The pattern of the film is essentially this: A sex scene, followed by a discussion of race and racism, followed by another sex scene, followed by a discussion of class and classism -- and repeat. Sure, the message is delivered rather heavy-handedly, but it's a good message. Black or white, from old money or from the 'hood, we all want the same things: to live a good life, and to get laid as much as possible. The party guests slip away in pairs and threesomes for pre-dinner sexual appetizers, and there's lots of anal and deep-throating to go around. Since it's only ten years old, the look of the film isn't especially dated -- for better or worse. The women still have shaved pubic hair and many sport surgically-enhanced breasts. Apart from a few unfortunate hairstyles, it could have been made any time in the past couple of years. The transfer isn't wonderful -- it looks like a VHS dubbed to DVD, despite the claims of "digital remastering," but it's perfectly watchable. If you like your porn with a social conscience, set aside some time for Dinner Party at Six. 	E-Love Wanted Simon Wolf Simon Wolf has a great sense of humor... and that's a wonderful thing in porn. A woman whose boyfriend is a serious two-timer, and a professor with no social life whatsoever are set up via a dating service without their knowledge by their "friends." So, we have your basic meet-cute, get-stranded-in-a-cabin-cute, fuck-cute plot. It's, well, very cute. And very entertaining, with a ton of very hot sex long the way. Natalia Wood (as the cheated-upon girlfriend) can, in fact, act, and the young hot professor is a definite step above most slightly-scruffy porn studs in both attractiveness and articulateness (is that a word?). A good choice for couples looking for something a little raunchier and edgier than you usually get in "couple's tapes"; there's a strong focus on female pleasure, and everyone involved looks like they're having a ball, with some very loud, expressive performances. The fantasies are imaginative and fun, with a light touch of kink. It's great to see Chambers doing new work, and there's a terrific scene with Chloe (who we're always happy to see) getting fucked in a sling in a nightclub. And unlike a lot of "fantasy made real" sex movies, Edge Play actually shows negotiation, limits, and safewords in action. 	Erection Services InPulse Erection Services is a porn-for-straight-women feature starring buff beefcake Julian (this time with the assistance of Alex Sanders and Chris Cannon). The male performers get top billing here, which should tell you all you need to know about the sensibility of the film -- it's about pleasing women, though the female stars are lovely enough that male viewers can enjoy it, too. In voiceover, Julian explains how his ex-girlfriend always insisted that men never know what women really want. Determined to prove her wrong, he decides to start a gigolo service with a couple of friends. In the course of servicing his clients, Julian discovers that, in fact, he doesn't understand women. It turns out women like to be pampered! And to be treated nicely! (Though, oddly, they don't mind the occasional facial cumshot.) The film serves female viewers well, with plenty of lingering shots of beautiful male bodies in all their sweaty glory, with lots of cunnilingus, some foot worship, and a brief, tasteful anal sex scene. The highlight is the final scene, where Julian gives a woman a long slow oil massage. When he's done, he stretches out on the table, and she oils him up thoroughly before fucking him. The production values aren't incredibly high, and there are some odd directorial flourishes, but nothing too distracting. The film is fairly short overall, only about 75 minutes, though the three scenes are all individually fairly long and involved. 	Girls Lie Eon McKai Vivid Alt. This is the best porn I've seen all year. If it had a bit less sex and a bit more angsty dialogue, this could have been an indie film on the festival circuit, with showings at your local art house theater -- and the cinematography is actually better than that of many indie films. This is a porn movie with actual themes, in addition to lots of hot sex, and the sex scenes often serve to reveal things about the characters. This movie isn't afraid to show us chipped nail polish, heat shimmers on the asphalt, scabs on ankles, long shots of the bleak desert, the possibility of getting pregnant from one night stands, and some occasional awkward sex. All that, and it's still sexy, and authentic, and genuine. It's porn that's also actually art. From a purely prurient viewpoint, there's lots of very hot sex, and the "Vivid Alt" girls are all quite beautiful, young and pale, most tattooed and/or pierced, with natural breasts. They can also act, and have a script that requires them to act. And the four main female characters do tell lies, for a variety of reasons: Charlotte, the lovely sun-freckled blonde, secretly works as a hooker to make money to support her drug habit and her unemployed boyfriend. She's beautiful and sad as she rides her bicycle through the seamier sections of Los Angeles, flirts with liquor store clerks, and eventually picks up a trick, who turns out to be a gay guy who wants to try sex with a woman; their scene is actually one of the sweetest in the film. Riley has a boyfriend (and they have good sex together), and he thinks she has a modeling career. But when she boards a plane and goes to LA, she doesn't go to model clothes, but to make a porn film. The scenes of the porn-within-a-porn look like they're shot on VHS, complete with tracking lines -- it's amazing attention to detail, and the scene is deliberately sort of awkward and disconnected, and includes an unsuccessful attempt at anal sex. (Fear not, somebody else has successful anal sex later on.) Pixie -- who has a beautiful tattoo of butterfly wings on her back -- picks up a guy at a punk club, and later has sex with another man in an abandoned house (they seem to be into urban exploration). She lies to herself and to her lovers. Her character is fascinating, needy and aloof by turns, and she suffers some of the most serious consequences of any character here. Dana just lies to everyone, expressing love and devotion to a series of men and using them all enthusiastically, and her sex scenes are all fun and lively despite the undertones of deception. Director Eon McKai deserves all the accolades that have been heaped upon him. He made a splash with Neu Wave Hookers, and Girls Lie is utterly different and equally groundbreaking. There are tons of bonus features (it's a three-disc set, including a soundtrack CD with lots of punk and indie rock): commentary, lots of raw behind-the-scenes footage, a brief mini-documentary about their location shooting, photo gallery, and an extra scene with Dana that runs nearly half an hour. It's a great movie. Watch and see. 	Heart of Darkness Paul Thomas Vivid Suppose you had a pretty good made-for-TV movie about the dangers of sex addiction. Then, suppose you put in all the sex scenes that such a movie would, of course, would have left out. You'd have this movie. Randy Spears' character is a nightclub owner, husband, father-to-be... and a sex addict, and a complete mess. He cheats on his wife, cheats on his mistresses, cheats on the people he's cheating on the others with, and has all sorts of sex adventures that just make him that much more miserable. This isn't a cheerful movie (the standard warning for all of Paul Thomas' features), but it's a remarkably good dramatic feature. It's not just a moralistic rant, and it's even overcomes the inherent contradiction in a porn flick that shows the dangers of too much commercial sex. (The sex is really good, too; the scene between Spears and Sunrise Adams deserved the award it got.) The acting is good and believable, the characters are real, and this reviewer ended up caring what happened (and that's a lot more than one can say for most porn flicks, to put it mildly). Randy Spears proves that, if porn wasn't so hard to break out of, he'd have no trouble working in mainstream productions, and Dru Berrymore is especially good (and hot) as his mistress/dominatrix/confidante. And we'll be incredibly generous and say that the rather implausible last scene is a dream sequence. It's worth it for the last shot, which is both creepy and masterful. 	In Search of the Wild Kingdom Shine Louise Houston Pink and White/Blowfish Video In Search of the Wild Kingdom is the latest (and greatest) film from indie auteur Shine Louise Houston, whose earlier releases The Crash Pad and Superfreak garnered her accolades from feminist porn fans and queers of various persuasions. Like her previous movies, In Search of the Wild Kingdom is a tour-de-force of lesbian sex, featuring lots of hot butches and femmes from the San Francisco area. This is the pure product. There are no gay-for-pay bottle blondes with scary fake fingernails engaged in perfunctory open-mouthed tongue kissing here -- except in a brief, hilarious scene that parodies such moments in mainstream porn movies. The basic premise is clever and used to very funny effect. A documentary film crew follows around another documentary film crew as they attempt to film the mating habits of San Francisco lesbians. So In Search of the Wild Kingdom is a (fake) documentary about a (fake) documentary about (real) lesbians. (Follow all that?) Imagine one of those National Geographic programs, with cameras watching lions from the distance, only instead of lions, they're watching lesbians. The fundamental joke is that the people having sex don't notice the camera crew in their apartment or in the bar, and there's a really funny bit of business with a "decoy lesbian," a mannequin dressed up and sent out to attract the natives. All that's cute and innovative, but what about the sex? This is a film made by and for lesbians, but given the tastes of most heterosexual men, they're likely to enjoy this, too, and it might even dispel some silly misconceptions about how women have sex. (Short answer: they have sex in all sorts of awesome ways.) The sex scenes are often really intense, especially a long three-way with two women wearing strap-ons. The most important thing: this is real fucking, messy, gasping, sweaty, improvisational, impetuous, spirited, and beautiful. It's a very funny mockumentary, but there's nothing mock about the sex. 	Janine Loves Jenna Vivid/ Club Jenna In Janine Loves Jenna, the title stars are out for a night on the town when their limo crashes, killing Janine. The opening sequence is animated, and it's one of the stranger cartoons you're ever likely to see. Jenna is distraught and wracked with survivor's guilt, and soon commits suicide. After dying in her bathtub, Jenna finds herself in Hell, where Janine acts as her guide, hoping to lead her up and out of the underworld. The special effects are sometimes cheesy, but no worse than those in many low-budget horror films, and the set designs are often inspired, from a café with a Deadly Sins theme to industrial platforms surrounded by fire-eaters and midgets in devil costumes, to the cool austerity of the devil's icy throne room. Many of the costumes are impressive too, from Jenna's giant leather batwings to Justin Sterling's convincing Devil costume. A lot of time, effort, and thought went into making this film, and it's inventive and ambitious. The actual sex scenes are often overshadowed by the design elements, as in the scene with Jenna and Janine having sex in an alley with men who have flames for faces; it's hard to pay attention to the fucking when there are people with hoods full of fire onscreen. Some of the dialogue is a bit tedious, too, but the essential premise of a sexual tour of the underworld is a great idea to hang a movie from, and Janine and Jenn are both in top form. 	Jesse Jane: Scream Celeste Digital Playground Jesse Jane: Scream is the latest in a series of horror movie/porn combinations, though the horror is mostly more campy than scary, presented as a series of vignettes involving haunted houses and serial killers. In the first scene, Evan Stone's car breaks down, and he investigates a nearby abandoned house, hoping to find a phone... and instead finds a roller-skating, sex-crazed Jesse Jane. They fuck roughly, wildly, and with seemingly real enthusiasm, with Jesse's mouth and cunt pounded in pretty much every possible position, and they're both thoroughly soaked with sweat by the end. The second scene is a necrophiliac serial killer fantasy... which actually manages to be hot! Brunette Faith Leon is dead in a bathtub, victim of Marco Banderas, who masturbates over her corpse while licking her earring. Then she comes back to life and fucks him. It's the fantasy of a highly deranged mind, but the blowjob is fantastic, even if the cumshot on her once-more unmoving body is creepy. The third scene is the standout, with the gorgeous duo of Madison Young and Rebeca Linares, dressed in skimpy shorts straight out of a '70s slasher flick, exploring a haunted house with Jerry, who does his best to frighten them. Finally, Shay Jordan and Jesse stay overnight in a creepy house on a bet, only to find that the source of the strange noises is Tommy Gunn. They screw him energetically, and brunette Shay and blonde Jesse look wonderful together. This movie is funny, occasionally disturbing, and odd while being dead sexy, too. 	Last Girl Standing Paul Thomas Vivid Last Girl Standing is that rarest of things - a porn film you can watch and enjoy for the plot. Seven A-list porn stars converge on a house for a series of auditions, all vying for the starring role in the first mainstream movie featuring hardcore sex. They all play themselves - or, at least, caricatures of themselves - and director Paul Thomas plays the director, though he's not "Paul Thomas." There's a sleazy producer who's contemptuous of porn stars, played, of course, by a porn star (Evan Stone). Jenna Jameson plays the consummate marketer, handing out free samples of her new perfume and making nice with the other actresses, who all simultaneously hate and envy her for her tremendous success. It's all very meta. There's lots of amusing cattiness as the women snipe at one another, and there are petty vendettas and rivalries played for laughs. Then there's the mystery of who's been stealing bits of costume from the other actresses. That's right - this flick has a working subplot! Each actress has an audition in three parts: a sex scene, a striptease dance, and a bit of dialogue... which must be performed in a British accent. It's surprisingly hilarious to watch these women practice by reading bits of recipes and articles and erotica in British accents that range from atrocious to... slightly less atrocious. (Jenna, perfectly in character, secretly sends out for a dialect coach from L.A.) One of the funniest moments comes when Briana Banks seduces the sleazeball producer, who says, "I bet all those porn stars never fucked you like this!" It's funny because he is a porn star, and even funnier because he says this in the midst of a reverse piledriver, a position seldom encountered outside the world of porn. As for the sex, there's lots of it, much of it quite hot. None of the individual sex scenes are very long, but that's made up for by the variety and the chemistry among the performers. As the box cover promises, there's plenty of anal, too. Highlights include the scene with Briana and the producer; the lingerie-clad catfight that turns into a six-way orgy with vibrators, double-dildoes, and other toys; and the leather-clad girl-on-girl scene where Jenna Jameson shags Tawny Robert in the ass with a strap-on. It's playful, it's hot, it's self-aware, and it's funny on purpose - what's not to love? A behind-the-scenes featurette and bloopers and outtakes round out the disc. (2006, 90 min.) 	Layout Thomas, Paul Vivid Layout is good porn, but even better, it's a good movie. Director Paul Thomas is at his sharpest, wittiest, and most inventive as he examines the subject he knows best: the adult movie business. Most of the action centers around the staff and subjects of Adult Video Guide, a fictional trade journal for the adult industry (based loosely on the real-life Adult Video News). Layout is a complexly layered collage of a film, featuring interesting characters drawn from various spheres of the adult movie business: jaded editors, has-been porn stars trying to make a comeback, sleazy boyfriend/managers, vicious up-and-coming starlets, idealistic young writers, and more. Penny Flame is the cold heart of the film, playing a well-educated junior editor who lost track of her humanity at some point, and who uses her influence to seduce starlets hungry for fame. Flame's presence is the most striking thing here, but the other actors do a great job too, including Briana Banks as a bitchy porn superstar, Tom Byron as the long-suffering AVG editor, Tyce Bune as the totally insane publisher, and Kylie Ireland as a self-assured former star getting back into the business. There's humor -- the backstage glimpses of porn sets are amusing, and some of the fictional movies-within-the-movie are hilarious, especially the delightfully cheesy costume drama "The Three Muskatettes." The dialogue is smart, the staging of the sex scenes is inventive, and the characters are compelling. The sex scenes are also very good, and absolutely hardcore -- there's lots of anal, some DP, and quite a bit of bondage, most of the latter featuring Penny Flame, who plays both the binder and the bound at various points. A good story and great sex -- who could ask for anything more? There's also a bonus disc with lots of extras, notably a long behind the scenes featurette. This is the best, most creative work Paul Thomas has done in a while. Now that's what we call right neighborly values! The performers are all attractive and can act, and the story, while sometimes feeling a bit surreal, holds together. Most of the sex is enthusiastic and really does feel like the characters are getting off on showing off, including a surprise for mainstream porno -- a mild hot wax scene. Our reviewers thoroughly enjoyed the two group scenes, in particular. If you've ever thought about checking out your cute neighbors who never bother to close the curtains or you get turned on by the idea the neighbors seeing you doing it through the living room windows but are too timid to go through with it, maybe this movie will let you blow off a little steam, so to speak. 	Manhunters Wicked Pictures It's girls with guns! In Manhunters a foursome of sexy, heavily-armed female bounty hunters roam the streets of LA in their Hummer, chasing down bailjumpers and bringing them to justice. As a premise, it's rich with sexual possibilities, from the sexual antics of various fugitives, to the extracurricular activities of the bounty hunters themselves, to the obligatory all-girl orgy (and even though it turns out to be a dream, that doesn't make it any less hot). There's a decent plot, with the ladies going out on various jobs, kicking ass, trading quips, and working out their own personal issues -- especially their leader, Jessica Drake, who hides her emotional troubles behind the requisite tough exterior. The scowling, fistfights, and housebreaking is counterbalanced by some amusing comic moments, mostly involving Kirsten Price, the "tomboy" of the team. There are lots of sex scenes, and standouts include the wild three-way among Sandra Romain, Jada Fire, and Brian Surewood, as two hookers and a depraved bail-jumper. It's energetic, over-the-top, damage-the-furniture sex, and everyone involved takes part with tremendous gusto. On the sweet and tender end of the spectrum, there's a nice scene with Jessica Drake and Brad Armstrong (who also wrote and directed) as old lovers temporarily rekindling their old flame. The four-girl orgy is another high point, with a lot of playfulness -- and anal sex with strap-ons, always a plus. The whole thing is well made, from the film itself to the classy DVD packaging to the incredible amount of extras -- two discs' worth, including bonus sex scenes, an alternate ending, director's and performers' commentaries, bloopers, cast interviews, bonus features, numerous trailers, photo galleries, assorted easter eggs... it takes almost as long to go through the extras as it does to watch the film! Manhunters is a great value. 	The New Devil in Miss Jones Paul Thomas Vivid Videos In a word, Awesome. It completely dominated the AVN awards winning every award it could possibly win; and while that doesn't always impress us, in this case it's well deserved. It's basically a real movie, with real plot, real dialogue, and pretty darn good acting. If you took the sex scenes out you could probably show it in a movie theater. But you definitely would not want to take out the sex scenes, because they are insanely hot, including a believable dungeon SM scene and a scorching girl on girl scene. The sex is so epic that after a while you start thinking, "Oh my god, another orgy, haven't there been enough already?" You already know the plot; Miss Jones is a virgin suicide who gets sent straight to hell despite her clean living ways, suicide being a sin and all. She begs the devil for another go at life and gets her wish with the caveat that she has to start getting it on well and often. Director Paul Thomas throws in a few twists of his own but basically sticks with the original idea. Savanna Samson plays Miss Jones and she spends a good deal of the movie looking adorable in granny panties and no make up. Jenna Jameson is the devil, and I probably don't have to tell you that she is smoking hot. It comes with tons of extras including a copy of the original 1972 version of The Devil in Miss Jones, which is a fantastic film in its own right. 	O: The Power of Submission Ernest Greene Adam & Eve Pauline Réage's classic erotic novel Histoire d'O (The Story of O in its English translation) spawned countless imitators and provided the basis for many a film adaptation. The most recent, O: The Power of Submission featuring the delectably voluptuous Carmen Luvana as O, is incredibly hot, combining all the sexy bondage and dominance/submission mind games with serious hardcore sex, while remaining pretty faithful to the story and the enigmatic character of O herself. The story: O is a photographer (in this case a fetish photographer for a website) who plays sex games with her lover, Ray (Tommy Gunn), who enjoys tying her up and cutting her clothes off and generally dominating her, though in a very loving way. He convinces O to go into temporary service at a house where beautiful, willing female slaves get whipped and sexually satisfy male and female guests (the house is not explicitly called Roissy in this version, and it's more a nice California house than a French country mansion, but no matter). O likes this deeper submission, and Ray tests her love for him by giving her to his half-brother Stephen (Evan Stone), who is a much harsher master than Ray -- the other slaves first train O with a rather impressive butt-plug so she can take Stephen's anal attentions. Stephen takes ever more control of O's life, plays mind games with her, and even enlists O into setting Ray up with another woman, a rather vapid fetish model, so Stephen can have O to himself forever. Through it all, Carmen Luvana plays O as cool, aloof, impossible to really break -- she's perfectly obedient, but always holds something of herself back. That's the central, fascinating ambiguity of O as a literary character, and the actress conveys it beautifully (though her acting is rather wooden when she has to deliver lines). Tommy Gunn's performance as Ray is wonderful -- his love for O, tinged with sadness, comes through clearly. Nina Hartley (reputedly quite a BDSM aficionado in real life) does the voiceover narration, and her husband Ernest Greene directs. It's one of the more authentic-feeling BDSM movies ever made, with good whip technique and plausible action -- no half-hearted flogging here! All the accoutrements are lovely; great collars, great whips, great restraints, hot lingerie -- yum. There's plenty of decent bondage porn out there, but this is a cut above. It combines a classic story with lush performances, a cast that seems to care about the product, good production values, and -- it must be said -- Carmen Luvana's astonishingly gorgeous breasts. 	One Size Fits All Candida Royalle Femme Productions This is a darling little romp, proving that comedy and serious sex can mix without slapstick. 	Rawhide Nicholas Steele Ultimate Pictures Beautiful photography, beautiful actors, and a beautiful plot... what more can you want from a porn movie? The plot's a good western one: A rancher's daughter sweeps into her father's spread, looking to sell out and cash in. The hands actually doing the work don't much take to that idea... but just how far are they willing to go to stop it? The production values are great (it was shot on HD, and well-rewards a huge monitor), the acting is good, and the script isn't just a way to get from one sex scene to another. The sex has the usual set of porn conventions (some anal, some facials), but it's also often lovemaking rather than just fucking. And with three disks, this could be the excuse you've needed to get a multidisk DVD changer. It won a bunch of 2004 AVN Awards, including Best Video Feature (in a tie with Beautiful), Best High-Definition Production, Best Supporting Actress/Video (Brooke Ballentyne), Best Videography (and, boy, did it deserve that one), and Best DVD Packaging (ditto). 	Sex Pix Red Light District Sex Pix combines raunchy sex with an engaging plot and pretty good acting, making it one of the best films in recent memory. Cheryl (Sunny Lane) wakes up in a messy room with a head wound, with no memory of who she is or where she is or why she's mostly naked, with only an angry naked bandaged cowboy for company (played by Evan Stone, in a role that won him an AVN Award for best actor). She discovers a pile of Polaroid photos of herself engaged in various sex acts, which disturbs her. When she tries to find out what's going on, the cowboy gets furious and hits her, she breaks a bottle and stabs him in the neck, and he dies. And that's just the beginning -- or, more accurately, the end. The film proceeds in a series of flashbacks in reverse chronological order, running back through the past couple of days to gradually reveal who the angry naked cowboy is, who Cheryl really is, and how she lost her memory. (Yes, the gimmick is stolen from the movie Memento, but it's put to original use here.) Red Light District is known for its hardcore, sometimes gonzo and over-the-top, movies, and they combine that rough-riding aesthetic with a feature-film plot to great effect here. Put simply, the sex is incredibly hot. Sunny Lane excels in all her scenes, and she can play innocent amnesiac or experienced sex kitten with equal aplomb. The big orgy scene -- featuring three guys and six women -- looks fun and spontaneous, with lots of partner-swapping and stunt-fucking, and Hillary Scott's anal scenes are amazing. Alektra Blue and Tyla Wynn do a wet and wonderful girl-on-girl shower scene in a fetish club, and then some guys join in, and it gets even better. There are half a dozen long scenes, ranging from over-the-top action to a dungeon fetish scene to a rather sweet scene between Kurt Lockwood and Sunny. Overall, this is a raunchy movie -- there's hard anal, ATM, dp, cum-swapping, rough blowjobs, the whole shebang -- but everyone involved seems to be seriously into it. Highly recommended. 	Space Nuts Jonathan Morgan Wicked Pictures Jonathan Morgan knows how to make funny movies. He also knows how to make very sexy movies. In this case, he has made a very funny, very sexy movie, with really fun special effects. (Note how we are not saying "out of this world" at any point in this review. Ooops.) Anyway, this is a simply great movie, with tons of good sex, good special effects, and lots of very good jokes. It doesn't just parody Star Wars: Morgan works in jokes on Aliens, Star Trek, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and even Gladiator. The plot? Oh, you know the drill: Rebels fighting for good. Evil Galactic Overlords. Sexy princesses. Buff heros. Appliance makeup so good you could just eat it. A simply hilarious performance by Randy Spears as an android. Blue-skinned alien women having sex with Evan Stone. Lots and lots of sex of all kinds, in fact. The usually completely-dopey "multiple angle" feature is put to very good use here: you can see a live commentary track on the main disk. And it comes with an entire DVD-worth of extras: Tons of "making-of" things (casting call, cold readings, etc., etc.), etc., etc. It's a seriously hefty package. Ready for the award list? 	Taken Veronica Hart Taken is another fine film directed by Veronica Hart which happens to hit all of the elements that we look for in a Couple's Video (see the top of the Couple's Videos section to see what those are). It's a plot-oriented, romance novel-type story of a rich housewife/mother (Ginger Lynn) who's kidnapped by a stranger (Evan Stone, looking very Fabio -- even wearing a white ruffled shirt in one scene) and kept captive until she falls in love with him. The film is mostly populated with performers approaching (or in the case of Hirschel Savage, about to leave) their forties, but they're all quite fit and attractive and still very sexy to watch. The sex, at times fast and even a bit rough, at other times gentle and slow, is all skillfully shot and edited together to show both the passion and personalities of the characters. In addition to some grand sexual performances, particularly from Ginger Lynn and from Alexandra Silk (in her scene with Herschel Savage), the story is also well-acted in the plot scenes, winning Ginger Lynn the Best Actress and Herschel Savage the Best Supporting Actor awards from AVN. (In case you care, Ginger Lynn's hair in the film looks nothing like her hair on the box cover, except for being blond.) (2001, 140 min.) 	Tell Me What You Want Jonathan Morgan Wicked Pictures Jonathan Morgan made his name making fun, light pictures... which this is not. However, he is still one of the best and most imaginative directors working in porn. The plot is not complicated: Missy plays an artist who becomes sexually involved, and sexually obsessed, with Mickey G.'s mystery man. He feeds her libido, and she his, and their sex play becomes more intense each time... But if the sex is hotter and hotter each time, what happens when your libido pushes you over a limit you didn't mean to cross? This movie has lots to recommend it: The sexual chemistry between Missy and Mickey G. is terrific; you do not doubt for a second that they are hot for each other. Missy is sizzling, while not being or trying to look like she's still 19. The sex scenes themselves are beautifully shot. This is a great couple's film, if what the couple in question is looking for is something intense and very, very sexual. We loved it. The "making of" extras on the DVD are funny as hell, too. 	Upload: Collector's Edition Eli Cross SexZ Pictures Upload is, simply, the single best porn feature of the past year. It's a science fiction epic, a study in obsession and addiction, and marries a hardcore gonzo style with plenty of BDSM and edgeplay with the kind of high production values that are seldom seen in porn at all. Director Eli Cross is doing what porn creators have been trying to do since at least the '70s: making a hardcore porn movie that's also simply a good movie. With a running time over four hours on two discs (with two more discs of extras, including extensive behind-the-scenes material), it's impossible to enumerate all the sex scenes, or even convey the plot, but basically Eva Angelina plays an agent for a secret government organization devoted to policing the black market in "sims," devices that people can slide into jacks on their necks, and which allow them to experience perfectly lifelike simulations and recordings of the experiences of others. Eva's actually addicted to the very sims she's supposed to be fighting. Add in her straight-arrow partner (Derrick Pierce) and anal queen Hillary Scott as a fugitive on a quest, and there's plenty of plot, and it's good enough to merit actually watching. Though no one could blame you if you skipped ahead to the smutty parts -- Hillary being gangbanged by five guys at once, say, or Lorelei Lee, Madison Young, and Adrianna engaging in some decidedly hardcore girl-on-girl-on-girl, or Kylie Ireland, Delilah Strong, and Derrick Pierce with a menage-a-trois that takes place in a virtual-reality black-and-white detective story (complete with a vintage vibrator!). There are a dozen sex scenes in all, from BDSM to anal to DP to cum-swapping to, well, you get the picture. It's not heartless soulless gonzo stunt-fucking for the sake of shock, either -- the over-the-top scenes are actually earned by the story, and the actors really sell it. Upload is a tour-de-force. It's a work of pornographic genius. It's a work of art. 	Velvet Tension: Stroke of Genius Inpulse Pictures Velvet Tension: Stroke of Genius is porn by and for straight women, with plenty of hot, well-hung beefcake and an emphasis on handjobs (the subtitle "stroke of genius" is apt). Tattooed, muscular Julian is the leading man, playing a real estate agent who makes a bet with a friend that he can go a week without having sex. Apparently, "sex" means penetration in this case, because within moments he's naked in a pool with the blonde house appraiser, making out, before retiring to poolside lounge chairs for a little teasing with fruit and, finally, a lingering handjob. No blowjob, no penetrative sex, just hands, and that's pretty much the repeated motif here, though there's some toy play for the ladies, some mutual masturbation scenes (including a nice one in a shower, where we see what the maid and butler in a mansion do on their afternoon off), even a brief foot-job and some toe-sucking for you foot fetishists out there.
