Afrodite Superstar

Afrodite Superstar is the first feature from "Femme
Chocolat," a new division of feminist porn company Femme Productions
dedicated to increasing ethnic diversity in porn. It's a welcome change
to see so many performers who aren't white, blonde, and
surgically-enhanced, but a laudable mission statement doesn't guarantee
good moviemaking. Fortunately, this film stars the wonderful Simone
Valentino, who combines great sexiness with great comic timing. She even
has a good script to work with, playing Afrodite, a self-described "BAP"
— Black American Princess — from Beverly Hills. One night while she's
out at a karaoke bar with her best friend Isis, Afrodite is discovered
by a hip-hop starmaker CEO. Afrodite doesn't actually have any talent,
or any desire to be a musician, but she goes along for the ride while
Isis provides music for her to lip-sync over. Eventually, of course,
Afrodite has to decide whether she wants to live a lie, pretending to be
a badass from Compton in a culture where women are routinely called
bitches and hos, or if she wants to be true to herself and find her own
path. The film is a gentle satire of gangsta rap culture, and ultimately
a rather sweet love story. Some of the jokes are hilarious — Afrodite's
gangsta alter-ego claims to have been born in prison! — though
others are less inspired (she suffers a "wardrobe malfunction" during a
live performance and has to apologize to her fans). The numerous fake
music videos are a treat, too. The filmmakers occasionally hits you over
the head with the feminist subtext (one character likes to quote Gloria
Steinem and bell hooks, complete with attribution!), but their
intentions are good. This is a porn movie, of course, and there are sex
scenes, but there are long stretches of movie with no naked booty on
screen at all, and less than half the movie features people fucking
onscreen. Still, it's a sexy, funny, and best of all different
film, well worth a look. (2007, 70 min.)

Batman XXX: A Porn Parody

Batman XXX is the best porn parody of the year. Rather than
take on the dark-and-gritty modern incarnation of Batman, director (and
Batman enthusiast) Axel Braun hearkened back to the campy 1960s TV
version starring Adam West. Dale DaBone and James Deen are wonderfully
cast as Batman and Robin respectfully; while Dale doesn't look much like
Adam West, he does capture the combination of silliness and gravitas.
The casting of the villains is even better, though: two of porn's
greatest scenery-chewers, Evan Stone and Randy Spears, depict the
Riddler and the Joker. Tori Black as Catwoman is fantastically fetching
— she actually looks a lot like original actress Julie Newmar, but she
does things Newmar never did on screen. The costumes and sets are
top-notch — there's even footage of a vintage Batmobile! — the acting
suitably over-the-top, and the sex... well, it's like filthy fan art
brought to life, with Catwoman shagged from both ends by Batman and
Robin simultaneously, Robin screwing Batgirl, and various other
fantastic bat-pairings. There's even a half hour, sex-free version that
could pass for an enthusiastic fan film. Highly recommended. (2010, 120

Circa 82 is director Dave Naz's love letter to the '80s,
especially the hardcore Los Angeles punk scene of 1982. It's fairly
light on plot, focusing on a group of disaffected teenagers who hate
their parents and love screwing and listening to music, but that's okay:
we get to watch them screw, after all, and even hear some great music.
Adorable Ashley Blue starts things off in a great anal scene with Tony

Dark Angels

Skillfully directed, beautifully filmed, with a seriously interesting
story and wicked-hot sex, Dark Angels is that rarest of all
rarities — a sex video that works both as a movie and as smut. New
Sensations reportedly spent months on this film, both in production
and post-production, and quite a bit of money as well. And it shows:
Dark Angels does an excellent job of pushing the boundary
between porn-movies and movie-movies. The production values are
first-class (well, on the porno scale of things, anyway), with excellent
editing, way-cool special effects, and camerawork that puts other porn
movies to shame, all adding up to a stylish, striking, and compelling
overall look. The story (a supernatural vampire crime thing — Buffy and
Angel fans will love it) is actually interesting, and the acting and
writing are pretty decent; it's not Citizen Kane, but it's
definitely on a level with a good B-movie, and we had no desire
whatsoever to fast-forward through the plot. And the sex is gorgeous and
wild, with attractive performers who seem really, really happy to be
there. Highly, highly, highly recommended — the whole office was totally
distracted the day we popped it into the VCR (back when we had such
things), and some of us count it among the best adult movies we've seen.
Do note that there is some violence in it, including a couple of
"vampires killing their victims after fucking them" scenes — we
personally found them totally hot, but it may not be your thing. Winner

Debbie Does Dallas...Again is a funny, sexy, big-budget film
that's sure to show up on award ballots. Director Paul Thomas has
crafted a truly strange and surprising film that is ostensibly a remake
of the original Debbie Does Dallas. The two movies don't
have much in common, though, except the presence of cheerleaders in
skimpy outfits — and, really, isn't that enough?
Stefani Morgan plays Debbie, head of a co-ed cheerleading squad
that's about to take part in a big national competition. She's having
fun sleeping with cute boys and leading her team on the road to victory
until her treacherous co-captain arranges for her to have an "accident"
during a particularly acrobatic cheer. Penny Flame, who hilariously
plays a rather sex-crazed angel, informs Debbie that she's dead, but
Debbie has unfinished business, so she makes a deal to trade sexual
favors in the afterlife for a return ticket to Earth. The resulting
angelic orgy — on a set featuring a vintage convertible and pools of
water — is both very hot and very weird, with amazing rough sex with
Penny and Debbie and Evan Stone. Debbie returns to Earth... but not in her
own body. She has to steal the body of suicidal geek Hillary Scott, and
win her way back onto the cheerleading squad without revealing her true
identity. The bits with Hillary and her blatantly cheating boyfriend
Marty Romano are hilarious, especially when she walks in to find him
dressed up in a cheerleader outfit — the movie's full of bizarre, funny
little details like that.
Naturally, the reincarnation of Debbie takes over the cheerleading
squad, leads them to the finals... and then there's an actual plot twist
that you may not even see coming. The movie's full of good sex scenes
and tons of scantily-clad eye candy, including everything you'd expect
from a cheerleader porno, including erotic exercise routines and
locker-room lesbianism. Plus all the weird stuff — a blowjob in a
coffin, angels in undisguised fake wings and halos shagging against
pillars, even some play with candle wax (not a traditional part of
cheerleader porn). The extras are epic — this is a three-disc set, and
includes the entire original Debbie Does Dallas, plus tons of
bonus scenes and outtakes, trailers, galleries, behind the scenes
feature, and so on.

Simon Wolf has a great sense of humor... and that's a wonderful thing in

It's, well, very cute. And very entertaining, with a ton of

can, in fact, act, and the young hot professor is a definite step above

articulateness (is that a word?). The sex is a great deal of fun to

that's par for the course these days.) The movie is laugh-out-loud funny

Edge Play actually shows negotiation, limits, and safewords
in action. An interesting, sexy exploration of fantasies in the head and

which should tell you all you need to know about the sensibility of the

foot worship, and a brief, tasteful anal sex scene. The highlight is the
final scene, where Julian gives a woman a long slow oil massage. When
he's done, he stretches out on the table, and she oils him up thoroughly
before fucking him. The production values aren't incredibly high, and
there are some odd directorial flourishes, but nothing too distracting.
The film is fairly short overall, only about 75 minutes, though the
three scenes are all individually fairly long and involved. This is a
good choice for couples, or for women who might be reluctant to try

herself in Hell, where Janine acts as her guide, hoping to lead her up
and out of the underworld. The special effects are sometimes cheesy, but
no worse than those in many low-budget horror films, and the set designs
are often inspired, from a café with a Deadly Sins theme to industrial
platforms surrounded by fire-eaters and midgets in devil costumes, to
the cool austerity of the devil's icy throne room. Many of the costumes
are impressive too, from Jenna's giant leather batwings to Justin
Sterling's convincing Devil costume. A lot of time, effort, and thought
went into making this film, and it's inventive and ambitious. The actual
sex scenes are often overshadowed by the design elements, as in the
scene with Jenna and Janine having sex in an alley with men who have
flames for faces; it's hard to pay attention to the fucking when there
are people with hoods full of fire onscreen. Some of the dialogue is a
bit tedious, too, but the essential premise of a sexual tour of the
underworld is a great idea to hang a movie from, and Janine and Jenn are

get fucked anally and otherwise. The action begins in a hospital where
Randy Spears and Marco Banderas both check in with vague medical
complaints involving their genitals; the nurses subscribe to the theory
of sexual healing, and so Nikki Rhodes and Aiden Starr, dressed in
fetching candystriper costumes, attempt to suck the poison out. (There's
also the occasional duel using crutches and oversized syringes, because
kung fu go-go dancing nurses are fierce.) Nick Manning plays a kung fu
master/strip club DJ who recruits reform school girl Marie Luv to defeat
the nurses in a dance off (or something like that); the lovely Marie on
her knees in a short skirt will help you forgive the incomprehensible
plot. There's lots of other nurse-on-patient action, and the climactic
stripper competition turns into a lesbian three-way with a vast array of
sex toys employed to impressive effect. While it's a little light on the
kung fu, this silly gonzo extravaganza excels in the arena of hot women
in slutty costumes fucking enthusiastically. It's just what the doctor

passionate, dirty, and delightfully lurid, without much in the way of
the high-gloss tenderness so common in all-girl films; these are women
who know what they want from a fuck, and aren't afraid to cheat,
manipulate, and otherwise force the issue to get it. Berlin is

coming: the inevitable collision of young James and experienced Melissa.
His seduction isn't subtle, but he's dedicated, and while she resists,
she doesn't have the strength to put him off completely, and soon
they're in bed together, with two hours of suspense and anticipation
coming to a thoroughly satisfying head. The film ends with them still in
bed together, sparing us the inevitably horrible consequences of their
transgression...which is good enough to qualify as a happy ending. (2009,

Pauline Réage's classic erotic novel Histoire d'O (The
Story of O in its English translation) spawned countless imitators
and provided the basis for many a film adaptation. The most recent,
O: The Power of Submission featuring the delectably
voluptuous Carmen Luvana as O, is incredibly hot, combining all the sexy
bondage and dominance/submission mind games with serious hardcore sex,
while remaining pretty faithful to the story and the enigmatic character
of O herself. The story: O is a photographer (in this case a fetish
photographer for a website) who plays sex games with her lover, Ray
(Tommy Gunn), who enjoys tying her up and cutting her clothes off and
generally dominating her, though in a very loving way. He convinces O to
go into temporary service at a house where beautiful, willing female
slaves get whipped and sexually satisfy male and female guests (the
house is not explicitly called Roissy in this version, and it's more a
nice California house than a French country mansion, but no matter). O
likes this deeper submission, and Ray tests her love for him by giving
her to his half-brother Stephen (Evan Stone), who is a much harsher
master than Ray — the other slaves first train O with a rather
impressive butt-plug so she can take Stephen's anal attentions. Stephen
takes ever more control of O's life, plays mind games with her, and even
enlists O into setting Ray up with another woman, a rather vapid fetish
model, so Stephen can have O to himself forever. Through it all, Carmen
Luvana plays O as cool, aloof, impossible to really break —
she's perfectly obedient, but always holds something of herself back.
That's the central, fascinating ambiguity of O as a literary character,
and the actress conveys it beautifully (though her acting is rather
wooden when she has to deliver lines). Tommy Gunn's performance as Ray
is wonderful — his love for O, tinged with sadness, comes through
clearly.
Nina Hartley (reputedly quite a BDSM aficionado in real
life) does the voiceover narration, and her husband Ernest Greene
directs. It's one of the more authentic-feeling BDSM movies ever made,
with good whip technique and plausible action — no half-hearted flogging
here! All the accoutrements are lovely; great collars, great whips,
great restraints, hot lingerie — yum. There's plenty of decent bondage
porn out there, but this is a cut above. It combines a classic story
with lush performances, a cast that seems to care about the product,
good production values, and — it must be said — Carmen Luvana's
astonishingly gorgeous
breasts.

standard stuff, but things get more interesting when Betty goes for an
audition with a schlock B-movie producer (he does films like "Attack of
the Gopher People") — it's a pretty funny scene, especially Betty's line
reading as Queen of the Gopher People, and when it inevitably moves into
casting couch territory, Betty runs away, her sensibilities thoroughly
shocked. (We get a sex scene anyway when the director calls in his very
hardworking secretary.) Desperate for money, Betty goes into business
with her roommate, picking up a little cash by watching her fuck an
exhibitionist John. Then they get a gig doing pin-up photographs, posing
in lingerie, and it's a cute sequence with fake spanking and hair
pulling. The two celebrate their success by making out, and we finally
get a sex scene with Betty, albeit girl-girl. Next Betty pays her rent
with a blowjob — well, gets an extension, anyway — and then agrees to
make a porn film to earn some much-needed money. The sex is good, the
writing is way above average, and there are some clever plot twists all
the way through. Worth a look, especially if you're a Bettie Page fan

can you want from a porn movie? The plot's a good western one: A
rancher's daughter sweeps into her father's spread, looking to sell out
and cash in. The hands actually doing the work don't much take to that
idea... but just how far are they willing to go to stop
it?
The production values are great (it was shot on HD, and
well-rewards a huge monitor), the acting is good, and the script isn't
just a way to get from one sex scene to another. The sex has the usual
set of porn conventions (some anal, some facials), but it's also often
lovemaking rather than just fucking. And with three disks, this could be
the excuse you've needed to get a multidisk DVD
changer.
It won a bunch of 2004 AVN Awards, including Best Video
Feature (in a tie with Beautiful), Best High-Definition
Production, Best Supporting Actress/Video (Brooke Ballentyne), Best
Videography (and, boy, did it deserve that one), and Best DVD Packaging
(ditto). It also was nominated for, and apparently nearly won, the 2003

title. Writer/director Courtney Trouble has burst onto the indie porn
scene with several fantastically fun and edgy films, and this is no
exception. First among femmes is blonde cutie Lorelei Lee, who always
brings a playful energy to her roles, never more so than here, pushed
against the wall by the butch Tomcat. There's a little roughness — some
choking, some ass-slapping — but there's also plenty of laughter, and
Lorelei's ecstatic thrashings look totally genuine. Other high points
include Jiz Lee (looking adorable in a newsboy cap) bound and hoisted
for rope suspension bondage by Dallas Fivestar. There's also crazy

Taken is another fine film directed by Veronica Hart which
happens to hit all of the elements that we look for in a Couple's Video
(see the top of the Couple's Videos section
to see what those are). It's a plot-oriented, romance novel-type story
of a rich housewife/mother (Ginger Lynn) who's kidnapped by a stranger
(Evan Stone, looking very Fabio — even wearing a white ruffled shirt in
one scene) and kept captive until she falls in love with him. The film
is mostly populated with performers approaching (or in the case of
Hirschel Savage, about to leave) their forties, but they're all quite
fit and attractive and still very sexy to watch. The sex, at
times fast and even a bit rough, at other times gentle and slow, is all
skillfully shot and edited together to show both the passion and
personalities of the characters. In addition to some grand sexual
performances, particularly from Ginger Lynn and from Alexandra Silk (in
her scene with Herschel Savage), the story is also well-acted in the
plot scenes, winning Ginger Lynn the Best Actress and Herschel Savage
the Best Supporting Actor awards from AVN. (In case you care, Ginger
Lynn's hair in the film looks nothing like her hair on the box cover,

cross?
This movie has lots to recommend it: The sexual chemistry
between Missy and Mickey G. is terrific; you do not doubt for a second
that they are hot for each other. Missy is sizzling, while not being or
trying to look like she's still 19. The sex scenes themselves are
beautifully shot. This is a great couple's film, if what the couple in
question is looking for is something intense and very, very sexual. We
loved
it.

Flame is a delight as always, and Nick Manning has the kind of wide-eyed

emphasis is on depraved sex, it is a horror flick, so be aware there's
some creepy imagery here and there (though there's no gore), especially
at the end; the final scene is not even remotely sexy, unless you've got

non-porn parts and a phenomenal performer for the more graphic sections.
The opening scene with her scumbag boyfriend (Barrett Blade) shows off
her impressive oral skills, and the film gets more intense as it goes
on, with a couple of excellent three-ways (Roxy DeVille and Brooke Haven
are especially hot in their scene with Randy Spears, dispenser of
afterlife wisdom). The last scene ups the ante even more, with Keylani
press-ganged into pleasuring three ghosts (Chris Cannon, India Summer,
and, Marcus London); there's a lot of energy, and it's a fine finish to
a film that's watchable plot-wise and extremely satisfying in terms of
titillation. If you like your porn with a ghostly twist, The

The Wild Search is from indie auteur Shine Louise Houston,
whose earlier releases The Crash Pad and
Superfreak garnered her accolades from feminist porn fans
and queers of various persuasions. Like her previous movies, The
Wild Search is a tour-de-force of lesbian sex, featuring lots of
hot butches and femmes from the San Francisco area. This is the pure
product. There are no gay-for-pay bottle blondes with scary fake
fingernails engaged in perfunctory open-mouthed tongue kissing here —
except in a brief, hilarious scene that parodies such moments in
mainstream porn movies.
The basic premise is clever and used to very funny effect. A
documentary film crew follows around another documentary film
crew as they attempt to film the mating habits of San Francisco
lesbians. So The Wild Search is a (fake) documentary
about a (fake) documentary about (real) lesbians. (Follow all
that?) Imagine one of those National Geographic programs, with cameras
watching lions from the distance, only instead of lions, they're
watching lesbians. The fundamental joke is that the people having sex
don't notice the camera crew in their apartment or in the bar, and
there's a really funny bit of business with a "decoy lesbian," a
mannequin dressed up and sent out to attract the natives. All that's
cute and innovative, but what about the sex? This is a film made by and
for lesbians, but given the tastes of most heterosexual men, they're
likely to enjoy this, too, and it might even dispel some silly

the classic sitcom about a captive genie in skimpy clothing who just
wants to please her master, a buttoned-down Air Force Major. (The sexual

the highlight here, ably capturing the mixture of naivete and enthusiasm
portrayed by original actress Barbara Eden — and we get to see what's
underneath her harem pants! The plot concerns a pair of lesbians who
move in next door, fascinating Jeannie, who allows herself to be seduced
in the opening scene, a fabulous all-girl three-way with toys and
rimming. The other standout scene is the climax, with Jeannie in her
bottle with both her master and his best friend, making all their wishes
come true — at least, all their wishes that involve having a hot blonde
take on both of them at once. There's not that much in the way of magic,
and the jokes aren't as funny as the laugh track wants them to be, but
the attention to period details — from sock garters to rotary phones! —
is laudable, and Shawna is the perfect Jeannie of your dreams. (2010,

the classic original series of Star Trek. The sets are lovingly
designed, the costumes are beautifully recreated (complete with
miniskirts for the ladies!), and the casting is mostly top notch. Evan
Stone (who cut his signature long hair for the role) is perfect as
Captain Kirk, since he's the closest thing the porn world has to the
scenery-chewing antics of William Shatner, and Nick Manning does an
equally impressive turn as villainous genetic superman Khan Noonien
Singh (originally played by Ricardo Montelban). Trek fans will recognize
the story as a retelling of the classic episode "Space Seed" — but with
lots of extra sex, including great performances by Aurora Snow, Jenna
Haze, Sasha Grey, and Jada Fire (as Uhura). When Khan releases a deadly
virus that can only be cured by a massive release of endorphins, the
crew has no choice but to fraternize intimately in pursuit of
life-saving orgasms. Clever, funny, affectionate, and charming, this is
likely the best Star Trek porn ever made. Recommended. (2009,
120 min.)

Under the Covers is a funny, sweet film from gifted
director Candida Royale. It opens with newlywed Richard Range filming
his wife Sativa Verte as she does a little striptease for him in
lingerie. Turns out the filming is an assignment from their sex
therapist, Charly Carlyle, and next up we see Charly being interviewed
by a reporter doing a story about "Modern-day Aphrodites" — women who

It's largely a film about secret lives. For one, Charly insists in

masquerade sex party allows guests to act on their true urges while in
disguise... though there might be a little embarrassment when the masks
come off. It's a sexy, funny flick, well worth watching, and good for
couples or people just looking for smarter-than-your-average porn.
