At long last, someone has made a good, solid, non-stupid video guide to doing SM that's intended for newcomers to kinky play. Using a combination of info-narration and explicit demonstration, Whipsmart discusses and illustrates the basics of BDSM, in a clear, accessible, and often quite entertaining manner. It doesn't make a substitute for a comprehensive book on doing SM safely, such as Consensual Sadomasochism; there's just no way to pack that much information into a video and keep it under fifteen hours long. But Whipsmart does make an excellent and useful companion to a good how-to-do-SM book or books; after all, there are definitely some concepts that are easier to learn by watching and listening than by reading. And they're more fun to learn that way as well.

Partly an educational and demonstration video, partly an "isn't this stuff beautiful to watch" video, The Pain Game is both one of the most authentic and one of the most beautifully-made SM videos we've seen. The production values are first-rate, without the sacrifice of energy, emotion and immediacy that so often comes with first-rate video production. The scenes are pretty advanced and quite intense, so it doesn't make for a good introductory how-to tape; but if you've been playing for a little while and want some new ideas, or if you're just starting out and want some inspiration, or if you just want to watch some breathtakingly lovely SM play, you can't do much better than this video.
