The Adventurous Couple's Guide to Strap-On Sex
Blue, Violet
Cleis Press
Author Violet Blue takes the mystery out of the Bend Over Boyfriend
phenomenon (renamed "pegging" through a contest run by Dan Savage back
in 2001). If you missed the trend (or the renaming ceremony), pegging is
male-penetrative anal sex for straight couples. This fabulous,
well-written guide not only takes the guess-work out of how to fuck your
man up the ass, but it takes time to explain just why pegging is so
popular, how to ask for it (for both the man and the woman),
how to get suited up for it, and just how it works in general. From the
detailed anatomy lesson to where to shop for a harness
and a dildo
(ahem), this is a very reassuring, very easy-to-read book. And the extra
steamy little erotic tales (no pun... ok, yeah, it was intended) by
Alison Tyler are sure to put you in the mood to try out what you've just
learned! (2007, 144 pp.)

Anal Pleasure and Health: A Guide for Men and Women
Morin, Jack, Ph.D.
Yes (Down There)
An exploration of anal sexuality in an intelligent, non-sexist way.
Sometimes called the "bible of anal sex," this is easily one of the most
useful and informative books on the subject, and is highly recommended
by sex experts and educators everywhere. This edition, the third, has
been revised once again, and addresses power dynamics in relationships,
anal sex other than intercourse, and finding a non-judgmental health
care provider, as well as info on anatomy and relaxation and
communication techniques. (1998, 269 pp.)

The Art of Lap Dancing
Want to give your man a treat? Want to feel sexy while burning some
extra calories? The Art of Lap Dancing is a handy little
guide to getting down and dirty in the safety of your own living room.
The moves are divided into five different routines (Girly Girl Pink,
Babelicious Girl Blue, Go-Go Girl Green, Party Girl Purple, and Bad Girl
Black), so you can pick the one that best suits your personality or
current mood. We have to warn you that the illustrations are a bit on
the cheesy side, and we laughed a couple of times at the silly fun the
artist was having. Yet, despite that, we found it rather inspiring and
couldn't wait to try some of the moves on our own partners. We liked the
fact that you have an entire routine, instead of just a bunch of random
moves, so you can feel confident knowing just what to do next as you
tempt and tantalize your man. Definitely hetero-only in focus. A very
easy-to-follow guide to the best kind of dirty dancing!

Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk About Sex After Sixty
Price, Joan
Seal Press
In our youth-obsessed culture, it's good to find a fabulous book such as
this one to remind us that many, many women are having the best sex of
their lives... after age 60! Sexuality advocate and fitness
professional Joan Price has put together an amazing book on sex after
60, and even though the reviewer doesn't fit in this age bracket
herself, she couldn't stop reading it. The information contained in this
book is extremely valuable: advice about dating, sex toys, sex after
menopause, and fitness are just some of the handy information to be
found within its covers. With personal anecdotes of her own and of other
sexually active women over 60, Price demonstrates that one's sex life
after 60 can be as titillating as teenager's (but with waaaay more
experience to make it even better!).

Box Lunch: the layperson's guide to cunnilingus
Cage, Diana
Alyson
Yes, ok, sure there are other guides to cunnilingus out there, but this
still might just be our favorite. Why? Well, it's got the conversational
tone that makes it so easy and fun to read, which we like, and the
information presented is top-notch, but, truly, there are two things
that make this book stand out above the how-to-give-girls-head crowd: it
has a page of troubleshooting tips (sure, it may be common sense to you,
but we think you can never stress the basics enough) and it is
illustrated by Colleen Coover, the artist who created the adorable,
rompy-fun comix Small Favors. Seriously, we have never seen
such an adorable anatomical drawing of girl parts in our lives;
Coover's drawings make the position guide clear, cute and pretty durn
hot. We also love the lists of various slang terms, the random fun facts
and did we mention the illustrations? A really fun, very informative
guide to giving her the good kind of tongue lashing. (2004, 142 pp.)

Cosmo's Aqua Kama Sutra: 25 Sex Positions for the Tub, Shower, Pool, and More
The Editors of Cosmopolitan, (Author), Lundberg, Bo (Illustrator)
Hearst Books
If you've ever tried to have sex in a pool, jacuzzi, shower or ocean,
you might have found that it's not quite as easy as it looks.
Cosmo's Aqua Kama Sutra is a positioning guide for those
times when you want to have sex without drying off first. Each position
is marked with a "lust locale" symbol and comes with "erotic
instructions" (written directions), an drawing of two figures doing it,
reasons why you'll love it and a "aqua extra" tip for making it even
better (for example, suggesting that you time your thrusts with the
ocean waves for more oomph!) Best of all, the whole thing's waterproof,
meaning you can throw this slender little reference in your beach bag or
bring it into the pool without worrying about the ink running. Our only
complaint is that it could be organized better (all the different
locales are interspersed together, making it potentially tricky to flip
through all the various positions for one specific locale). But overall
it's a brilliant little book that should help you figure out the best
way for getting down and wet at the same time. (2006, 63 pp.)

The Essential Kama Sutra
Erotic Print Society
Erotic Print Society
While The Essential Sutra is based on the Sir Richard
Burton translation most of us are already familiar with, the Erotic
Print Society has taken it one step further by illustrating it not
only with updated drawings (in addition to the smattering of
traditional, Indian, ones), but also explicit photographs of a real-life
couple trying out the positions. This means that actual human beings,
not just enthusiastically illustrated people, are demonstrating such old
favorites as The Rising Position, The Mare's Position, The Splitting of
a Bamboo and the Fixing of a Nail (well, ok, that last one they tried,
but couldn't quite master). What also really makes this version stand
out is the comments from Sally and John (the real-life couple mentioned
earlier) talking about what they liked about each position, and whether
they'd try it again or how they'd modify it. Their comments are fun to
read and really useful when trying this at home. It all comes in an
easy-to-keep-open size of 10" x 7-1/2". Our favorite Kama Sutra
to date! (2006, 146 pp.)

The Ethical Slut: A Guide to Infinite Sexual Possibilities
Easton, Dossie and Catherine A. Liszt
Greenery Press
Wow. This book is wonderful. A handbook on managing sluthood (a.k.a.
non-monogamy, a.k.a. polyamory, a.k.a.... oh, you get the idea), it gives
lots of solid, practical advice for those who are already in open
relationships as well as for those who think they might like to try it
but are afraid they couldn't cope. It covers a wide range of
slut-related topics, from the nasty cultural myths about open sexuality
to specific suggestions on arrangements you might make with your
partner, with kind, wise words about such things as boundaries,
jealousy, health, childrearing, cleanly negotiating through conflicts,
and a host of other things important to not-necessarily-monogamous
people and relationships. It's a little too heavy on the "taking care of
yourself" side and a little too light on the "caring for your partner"
side, but it's still mighty useful. Written by the authors of The
New Topping Book and The New Bottoming Book. (1997,

Female Ejaculation & The G-Spot: NOT Your Mother's Orgasm Book!
Sundahl, Deborah
Hunter House
Deborah Sundahl, known in sex circles as the authority on female
ejaculation, has put together quite the little how-to book. This
easy-to-read guide is loaded with plenty of practical information on
finding and manipulating the G-Spot, as well as simple techniques for
learning how to become a female ejaculator. Even beyond this, she
addresses the ancient history of female ejaculation, as well as some of
the earthier and more emotional issues surrounding
it.
We were fascinated by the science behind female ejaculation and
the G-Spot, especially how little medical professionals know about this
tiny wonder. Of course, this Blowfishie would have loved to see a
chapter entitled "Female Ejaculate: Who Cares If It's Pee As Long As It
Feels Good?" But we
digress.
This is a fantastic book for those of you wanting to learn
how to female ejaculate. Or those of you who already ejaculate and want
to better understand it. Or, hell, for you guys out there who want to
crack the mysteries of this whole squirty thing. Certainly, this is one
of the most comprehensive G-Spot and female ejaculation books we carry.

Fetish Sex: An Erotic Guide for Couples
Blue, Violet (with stories by Thomas Roche)
Daedalus Publishing
Do you have one thing that really turns you on? Then you may very well
have what we call a fetish. In Fetish Sex author Violet
Blue delves into the world of, well, fetish sex, beginning with
questions such as "How do I know if I have a fetish or just an interest
in something?" and "Does your lover have a fetish?", moving into
suggestions on how to talk about these fetishes with your lover and
incorporating the fetish into actual sex play. The last two-thirds of
the book talk about the details: from role-playing to fetish wear to
lists of the actual fetishes themselves, these chapters are fascinating
both in their usefulness (the role-play chapter has a quiz you can fill
out so you can clearly define exactly what you're looking for
in a scene) and variety. Nearly every fetish you can think of (and we're
betting some you never have!) is discussed at least briefly, and it can
read either as a curiosity ("people really get off on that?")
or a serious turn-on ("ooh, I like pony play, but I never thought about
making an feeding trough for mine!") or both! And, speaking of serious
turn-ons, we should note that this book is peppered with very
hot short erotic stories about different fetishes, each one written by
one of our favorite kinky writers, Thomas Roche. Good resource section
at the back, too. A great book for exploring your own fetishes or even
just expanding your fantasies. (2006, 223 pp.)

Masterclass: Anal Sex
Webb, Charlotte
Erotic Print Society
Quite possibly the hottest informational text on anal sex out there,
Masterclass: Anal Sex achieves its impressive collaboration
of turn-on with tune-in by liberally illustrating its pages with actual
photographs of anal sex taking place. There are well-drawn
illustrations, too, and all the pictures range from modern, full-color
photographs to historical drawings and photographs, most of them as
explicit as you could hope for and nearly all of them educational in
some way (say, demonstrating a position, or the use of a particular sex
toy). And, while there are certainly more definitive books about anal
sex out there, the text of this one is nothing to sneeze at and covers
all the basics in clear, easy-to-follow language. Overall, a

Nina Hartley's Guide to Total Sex
Hartley, Nina
Avery Books
There's a plethora of sex guides on the market today, from general sex
education guides to specific texts aimed at only one sexual activity or
another. However, this is one of the best guides we've seen that tells
you specifically what to do in nearly every sexual
situation. And better yet, it's written by the inestimable sex goddess
Nina Hartley, maker of a fabulous line of sex
guides on DVD! Instead of wasting time with diagrams of penises that
most of us have already pored over, Nina dives directly into the
nitty-gritty, talking you through the basics of masturbation, the tricks
of oral sex, the details of diddling your partner, and the specifics of
how to really fuck. No, really, we mean very specific. While
she's very detailed in a way we don't see enough of in sex how-to's, it
comes across more as a close girlfriend telling you exactly the
way she likes it, with enough variety in the way she likes it and
enthusiasm for every position that you can't wait to go home and try
some of it out with your honey. She covers anal sex, sex toys, swinging,
three-ways and BDSM as well. Our only complaint is that this is a very
hetero book — aside from the three-way chapters near the end, it assumes
the reader is female with a male partner — but much of what she says can
be easily converted for lesbian and homosexual couples as well. (2006,

It's been a long time since we've had a new book on how to do polyamory
right, and, though we love The Ethical Slut with a love
that knows no bounds, we're sure that it understands that we can also
love other books on the subject just as much, and that it does not
diminish our original love for it. If that sentence sounds familiar,
intriguing or even confusing to you, you might consider checking out
Opening Up: A Guide to Creating and Sustaining Open
Relationships. Written by the uber-awesome Tristan Taormino,
Opening Up is an updated and very thorough look at what it
takes to openly romantically love more than one person at a time. After
a very well-researched history of marriages of all types, Taormino

goes along with that. Peppered throughout with stories from real-life

The Smart Girl's Guide to the G-Spot
Blue, Violet
Cleis Press
Finally, a straightforward, witty book about finding and enjoying your
G-spot! The Smart Girl's Guide to the G-spot was inspired
by author Violet Blue's frustration with the lack of clear information
on this hot topic; she's right, pretty much every other guide out there
wants you to call it your "goddess spot" and couches descriptions and
information in flowery spiritual language. That's great, but it's not
going to speak to the vast majority of women out there. Blue's guide has
nothing but clear, easy-to-understand, approachable information about
the G-spot. From where it is, to how it was named, from different ways
to stimulate it to different sex acts to use with it, she covers
everything you need to know about your G-spot. And there are four steamy

The Straight Girl's Guide to Sleeping with Chicks
Sincero, Jen
Fireside Books
Author Jen Sincero provides a handy guide to an activity that most women
have experienced at least once, even if it was back in college: sleeping
with chicks. Reasons you might want to do it, how to pick up other
girls, how to woo them (with a bit of an emphasis on that old standby,
alcohol, specifically, tequila), and how to bed them right and proper
are just the beginning of what you'll learn in these pages. Sincero's
dry wit makes this already delectable topic downright fun, and she
provides a reading list at the back for further erotic inspiration.
Don't miss her tips on having a three-way with a boy and on figuring out
how involved you may or may not want to get with your new girly
conquests. We especially love love love the photos of faux barbie-dolls
demonstrating some of the positions: hilarious! Whether it's been awhile

Tricks... To Please a Man
Wiseman, Jay
Greenery Press
This is companion volume to our popular Tricks ...To Please A
Woman, a collection of some of the author's favorite tricks from
the popular Tricks series (most of which are now sadly out
of print). While this one also has loads of suggestions for fun, cool,
sexy, innovative things to make men enjoy themselves more in bed, the
focus at first seems to drift back to a woman's enjoyment, rather than a
man's (especially trick #26, which is titled "Ladies First"). Most women
(yes, this book is decidedly hetero in focus) will only want to skim the
basics section (though I suppose some of us need to be reminded how to
give feedback). The tricks get a bit more sophisticated around #29, when
we enter the manual tricks section. Everything you've ever done to a man
with your hands and many more things you've never thought of before but
can't wait to try! Even better is the oral tricks section — there are
many tried-and-true techniques listed here, and the writing is clear and
easy to follow. The enhanced tricks section deals with tricks that
require a bit of equipment — the equipment ranges from aprons to
imaginary bondage to vibrators — and has quite a bit to offer as well as
the final anal tricks section. This book has some of the same reference
sections (in addition to the lists of Tricks) that the women's books
does, but some (such as the section on Viagra) have a definite male
focus. Overall, a great source book for ideas on making sex with the man
in your life more fun. (2004, 160 pp.)

The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Men
Brent, Bill
Cleis Press
Not just another good guide to playing with your butt, Bill Brent's
The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Men covers all the
basics of anal play and then some. There's a whole chapter devoted to
debunking the myths of anal sex as they pertain to men (including "Only
Gay Men Do It" and "Nothing Was Meant to Go in There") and another on
anatomy and exercise that mentions side-benefits of anal play (such as
the health benefits of prostate massage). Written in a very clear,
readable style, the information contained in this book covers pretty
much everything you could want to know about anal sex — communication,
tools and toys, hygiene and diet, latex and lube, analingus, penetration
and positions (for both giver and recipient, and includes info on
dildo-fucking), fisting, anal health — and some things you might not
have even thought of — extreme sex (SM, gender-play, scat-play) and
recreational drug use. The book is directed at men, but Bill Brent does
take into consideration some women's issues (especially female anatomy
as it pertains to anal sex), and could certainly be used by women as
well (although The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women
deals more directly with women's concerns and might be more reassuring
for nervous female novices). In fact, the only complaint we have about
this impressive book is its skimpy resource section and lack of an index
(though the book's chapters are clearly laid out, so finding information
is less of an issue). Illustrated by Zanne and Fish (Fish did the
illustrations for The New Topping Book and The New
Bottoming Book, as well as The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex
for Women). Highly recommended. (2002, 200 pp.)

The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex For Women: 2nd Edition
Taormino, Tristan
Cleis Press
An excellent how-to book written for women of all preferences — hetero,
lesbian, bi or other — who want to enjoy anal sex, or who already enjoy
anal sex but want to find out more about it. (And about time, too, say
the Blowfishies — although actually, while the book is directed at
women, it's a fine guide on the subject for men as well.) Clearly
written, with a chatty, readable style, it covers a substantial range of
topics, from how to buttfuck safely to how to maximize your pleasure. It
includes information on both receiving and giving a wide variety of
types of anal sex, including rimming, dick-fucking, dildo-fucking,
butt-plugs and fisting. And it spends an entire chapter demolishing the
myths about anal sex — especially the myth that no woman really likes to
get it up the butt. This revised, 2nd edition includes new or expanded
material on male anal eroticism, power play, fisting and has a
question-and-answer section on all aspects of anal pleasure. Illustrated
by Fish, the marvelous illustrator of The New Topping Book
and The New Bottoming Book. Definitely
recommended.

psychology behind cock-sucking, the anatomy of a man, hygiene, health
considerations (STDs), practicing first, positions, deep-throating (with
diagrams!) and fantasy play, every last nagging worry or naughty
question should be covered. She even has a section on how sucking a
dildo is different than sucking live cock. We especially appreciate her
acknowledgement of power-play and the section on head etiquette (don't
hold 'em down unless that's been negotiated first!). Most of the
chapters finish with a steamy little short story by Alison Tyler to help
get you both in the mood. Reading this book straight through may prove a
bit repetitive, but it's easy to find the information you're seeking
through the table of contents. And if on the off chance that this guide
doesn't answer your deepest, darkest concerns, the resource and
reference chapters in the back are a great way to find out where to look
for more information. Ready, set, go down! (2002, 251 pp.)

The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy for Lesbians
Pepper, Rachel
Cleis Press
Yes, we know, it's not about sex per se — but sex has been known to
lead to pregnancy on one or two occasions, so we decided to include this
useful and informative book in our catalog anyway. Whether you're
lesbian, bisexual, or heterosexual, if you're a woman who wants to get
pregnant without a male partner, you'll find this book a big help.
Includes info on many aspects of pregnancy — physical, legal,
emotional, and logistical, to name but a few — from pre-conception
(does thinking about getting pregnant count as a "pre-conceived
notion?") to early babyhood. Thoroughly researched, clearly and
humorously
written.

The Ultimate Guide to Sex and Disability
Kaufman, Miriam, M. D., Cory Silverberg, and Fran Odette
Cleis Press
The folks over at Cleis Press have done it again, this time providing a
guide on a topic too often ignored by the sex industry. The
Ultimate Guide to Sex and Disability is for everyone who has, or
loves someone who has, a disability of any kind, be it chronic fatigue,
spinal cord injury, cystic fibrosis or many others. Our reviewer was
suffering from a lingering illness not specifically listed in the book,
and she still found the insightful, kind writing both informative and
reassuring. The book begins by addressing self-esteem, and goes on to
cover anatomy, sexual response, solo and partnered sex, oral sex,
penetrative sex (including positions, some with really cute
illustrations), sex toys, tantra, S/M, sexual health and sexual
violence. Most chapters include short "testimonials" from real people,
which this reviewer found both touching and illuminating. The tasteful
sense of humor, not to mention the extensive resource section at the end
of the book, make this a must-read for anyone living with disabilities
of any kind. Highly recommended. (2003, 345 pp.)

The Whole Lesbian Sex Book: Revised and Expanded Second Edition
Newman, Felice
Cleis Press
An excellent and comprehensive general sex guide for women who have — or
want — sex with women. (It's also a fine resource for straight women who
want to learn more about their bodies and responses — as well as for
straight men who want to learn more about the bodies and responses of
the women in their lives.) Aimed at everyone from the complete newcomer
to the experienced old-timer, it covers a tremendous amount of sexual
territory, with chapters on anatomy and physical response, desire and
fantasy, body image, communication and finding partners, gender, SM, sex
toys, sex parties, and much, much more. A very practical guide, it
offers specific sexual techniques and ideas, as well as addressing more
complex emotional and personal issues. New to this edition: an expanded
orgasm chapter, information on the latest sex toys, straight talk about
menopause and herbal supplements to support libido, tips on handling the
sexual side effects of SSRIs and a completely updated resource guide! A
very useful and valuable resource. (2004, 376 pp.)

The Wild Guide to Sex and Loving
Kelly, Siobhan
Ulysses Press
What a handy little book! Although we carry several books that will
answer your questions about sex and give you tips for your sex life,
(such as the wonderful The Guide to Getting it On and
The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex), these are big books, and
they might be somewhat intimidating for those just looking to spice up
their love life a little bit. Enter The Wild Guide to Sex and
Loving. Attractively arranged with glossy pages and full-color,
tasteful photographs, this book is almost as fun to peruse as the
techniques are to try out. Covering all your basic sexual concerns
(pleasure zones, flirting, kissing, masturbation, talking dirty,
stripping, turn-ons, oral sex, anal sex, erotic massage, tantra, kinky
stuff, sexual accoutrements, porn and, our favorite, sexual positions)
this guide is written in a clear, chatty style (with occasional British
slang, which we find very charming!) that makes it a real joy to read.
It's a great way to get some new ideas for the bedroom; flip through it
with your partner(s) and see where the conversation goes — you might
find out they're interested in more things than you thought! (Note:
there's definitely a hetero slant to the book, though the anal sex
introduction does give a nod to homosexual and lesbian couples.) Our
reviewer found it very inspiring. Recommended. (2002, 159 pp.)
