Gay Tarot
Based on the sequence and images of Waite-Smith style tarot decks,
Gay Tarot is a modern, homosexual interpretation of those
familiar symbols. And, wow, is it ever well-done. Updated not only for
gay life, but for modern living, the images reflect and refer to the
older images in the Waite-Smith style decks. For example, the 10 of
Swords features a computer screen showing the Waite-Smith style image of
the impaled figure. Others are more subtle: the 3 of Wands features a
(presumably gay) father waving goodbye to his young daughter on her way
to school, ghosted on either side by older images of the same girl,
while the Waite-Smith styles picture a man gazing out over a bay as his
three ships sail into the future. Other significant changes: The
Priestess is now The Intuitive, The Empress is now The Protector, The
Devil is now Self-Hatred, the Tower is now Revelation (with the image of
a young man coming out to his parents) and Judgement is now Beyond
Judgement. The court cards are titled Youth, Man, Guide, and Sage. The
little white book does its best to update the meanings as the images
have been updated, albeit in the usual minimal phrasing found in LWBs.
The best part of the LWB is the "self-image" spread (which is the only
spread included, although the LWB refreshingly acknowledges that there
are many different spreads, and you can make up your own). The changes
all make sense, the images are well-drawn, and the modern imagery makes
it more accessible for those who have trouble relating the more
traditional images to their modern lives. Overall, we're seriously
impressed with this lovely deck. Two fins up!

Wow, what a fine collection of photographs! This is one of the rare
photo books that is immediately pounced on and devoured here in the
Blowfish offices, despite most of us having "seen it all" already.
There's an immediacy and an unmistakable intimacy to these pictures that
most polished-and-posed erotic photo compositions lack. The facial
expressions, the bodies in motion, the settings all come across as
natural and engaging to the viewer; indeed, one feels invited in, asked
to watch these sweet, hot little moments captured on film. The range of
subjects is astounding and refreshing as well -- here, finally, you can
see hetero, gay, lesbian, trans-gender, old, young, skinny and zaftig,
leather and lace, all in one volume. Even the more extreme acts depicted
here -- such as the vaginal fisting and piss-play -- are presented in a
matter-of-fact manner, lessening the shock value. Don't miss the
thoughtful introductions by A.D. Coleman and editor David Steinberg

glance, but look deeper to find that the dapper young man in the suit is
really a young lady, that the cutie in the corset is really a slender
man. Other photographs simply depict straight-up dyke sex, leather bois,
plain ol' kinky folks, transgendered people, and other participants in
the radical queer communities of London and San Francisco from the past
30 years. A fascinating look at some of the most interesting sex around.

for nervous female novices). In fact, the only complaint we have about
this impressive book is its skimpy resource section and lack of an index
(though the book's chapters are clearly laid out, so finding information

illustrations for The New Topping Book and The New
Bottoming Book, as well as The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex
